weird thing going on w rgt hand & don't know wat it called

Sometimes my rgt hand feels funny, like weaker than normal.  And I notice when I text on my cell (I am holding phone w whole hand and pushing the buttins w my thumb)  I don't really even push buttons, it's a touch screen.  But it seems like my thumb will not go where my brain is telling it to go.  Or even if it does go where I want it to go, it switches to a different place.  It's kinda weird.

I'm trying to learn what this is called so I can explain it better to my neuro, but I looked up spasticity, and I don't think it's that.

Does anyone know what this would be??  Thank you in advance!  Don't kno what I would do with out all of you~~~

I have rt sided weakness also. I also have decreased feeling in my rt arm and 1st 2 fingers. I get twitching and sometimes just too weak to hold things in my rt hand. Thank God I'm a lefty-lol. I don't know what it's called though, sorry. My neuro was fully aware of this issue, and now I tell all the dr's doing an exam: can't fell much of anything on the rt-sorry. I think my reflexed are hyperactive on the rt too.

Do hope you find an answer, don't forget to add this to your list of "Symptoms to tell my doc about".

Take Care,
Chanda

I have something like that in my left hand. Uncoordination, clumsy, dropping things, loss of dexterity. It's been going on for almost 2 1/2 years now.

After my last neuro exam, the report noted left side ataxia. Maybe that's what it's called.

I agree with others though, don't tell the doc what you have, tell him/her what you are experiencing.

Hey Kelli

I have to agree with Jen about not dx but i do get its comforting to know its got a name and others are doing it too.

Personally i find the touch screens a ripe royal pain in the butt, yep i know everyone loves them but i do not ever get it to do what I want it too. I double touch, skip touch something above or to the side, its sort of a hit and miss and hope for the best lol I go nutts at the satnav cause i do not want to go to timbucktoo thank you very much.

Not like coffee, somthing wrong with the girl lol I crave a expresso machine that all i have to do is push a button and out comes my order, ohhhh heaven!

Cheers..........JJ

Hi Kelli,

The hands? I especially love when I'm using my mouse, or just have my hand on my mouse and I click it..without even trying lol..I don't dare use a regular can opener because my hands just don't work right. I found the greatest smoothe edge can opener at Big Lots. I just set it on top of the can, push a button and it dances around the can and opens it..An MS patient's dream can opener lol. I drop things, just like water running over my fingers.

PS I'm drinking tea, why don't you join me?

Hey, chica - don't try to figure out what it is before you get to the doc!  That's his job.

To me it sounds like you're experiencing some weakness and loss of control of the hand.  I had several months of this - my hand felt 'sleepy' and weak.  Sometimes it would have this sudden wave of weakness, and then it would make an involuntary jerk.

When you have spinal lesions, this is pretty common.  I have weakness and spasticity in both hands and both legs, but the spasticity problem moves around.  Every three months it either finds a new place or revisits an old one.

Kelli,

It sounds like an intention tremor when you fingers move to a different place to me. Hard to control.

I get the pinkie and ring finger twitches and the tremor's where your hand vibrates when holding it out. I also have a slight intention tremor with my left hand when trying to push a button say on a computer monitor. What it does is: my hand/finger that is pointed will not make a straight line to it's destination instead It bows out then try to corrects itself a little bit before getting there.

My doctor did prescribed propanolol for the tremors. It has helped a bit with the ones in my arm. The twitching seems a bit better too. It didn't help the intention tremor.

I'm not sure about the not going at all. Some times, I get the feeling my right leg is weak, is going to give out, is heavy and lagging. It sometimes acts like it might not want to "go" but it does. It just hesitates.

I did notice awhile ago that sometimes it seems like it has a super mild foot drop as I can hear it hit the treadmill when I'm walking (that's a pretty noticeable sound.) The other foot doesn't do this. I thought this was related to a knee injury from an unknown source on vacation last year but I wonder now. I have put it on my time line.

What you are describing is a problem with fine motor control or dexterity. This is when your mind has problems moving a part of you body to where you want it to be.

I occasionally drop things with my left hand, and both of my hands have tremors (which have been far more pronounced over the past two days).  My right pinkie finger twitches like the legs of a dying insect.

I can relate to what your hand is doing, too, except in my case, it's my left leg and foot.  I *can* walk, but my leg sometimes just feels weaker and I have to concentrate on moving it correctly.  Sometimes, especially when going downhill or down steps, my foot "will not go where my brain is telling it to go" and my leg hits the ground hard or too far out in front of me.

At this point, I don't even have "suspected MS"--just a zillion corresponding symptoms.  I'm curious about if people who've been diagnosed with MS have these same sensations and, if so, how they articulate them so that their doctors can understand that it's mechanical and not the effect of a panic attack, etc.
