What's Happening With My Hands?

Okay, first off, my computer died so I'm having to use my son's laptop.  It is a lesson in futility!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I often had days that it was hard to use the mouse, but I could always manage.  Now with this laptop and the pad you have to use it stinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't guide the pointer/cursor to where I want it because my hand just will not cooperate.  I will almost get to where I want to be and its like my finger just freaks out.....jumps.....won't move.....moves too much.....etc.

Very frustrating, and scary at the same time.

Does anyone else have this problem?

So glad the catastrophe has a happy ending . . the laptop takes lots of getting used to and I'm sure if I had tremors it would be impossible.  As for spelling, I have given up and figure you can decipher what I mean, typos and all.

We're out for a bball game tonight - go Flyers! - and I'll be back arund 10, just enough time to catch up on today's news.

Be well, Lulu

Save yourself time!

Start off by only writing half sentences from the outset!

heeheehee.......Hey, it must be a cat I'm seeing out of the corner of my eye, instead of a mouse!!

The sad thing is, I'm not too much better with the mouse...hahaha  I'll get right next to where I want to be and be ready to click and then my stupid hand will jerk or I just can't put the pointer where I want it!!!  Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I just wish I could type a complete sentence without having to go back and fix half the words.

I thought maybe the CAT ate your mouse!   :-)  Continuing with Kathy's theme....

My typing woes, which have gotten better, were that the last three fingers on my left hand would all of a sudden decide to do a flourish - like playing a flute.

It made for some interesting sentences!

I'm real good with the mouse, but I'm totally laughable without it....heeheehee

I'm so happy to be mousing again...ummmmmmmmmmm

I'm glad Doni found a solution. I have problems a lot because of essential tremor, which is getting worse. Sometimes I can't control the mouse, since when I go to click, my hand jumps all over and I can't click twice in the same place. My solution is to cover my right hand with my left, and that way I get enough control. Maybe that would work with the laptop gizmos, though I don't plan to try it and see.

During the before-Christmas sale frenzy I plan to buy a laptop, but I will definitely use a regular mouse with it. Even if my hands worked properly I can't stand those dang laptop mouse substitutes!

I bought this hyper scroll wireless mouse about a yr ago,  and it's completely off the HOOK! I thought I'd never be able to control it, and it had total control over me. But now it's like old hat.

You need to put a new cordless mouse on your christmas list! One JUST for you and your crazy hands!

(((hugs)))

Doni, like wan to wrote, take the mouse from your other computer BUT you have to restart the laptop with the mouse already plugged in for the laptop to recognize the hardware..... good luck. Lulu

Hi Doni...I never use the little finger pad on my laptop...way to hard...a mouse is just easier.  If you have a USB compatible mouse from your other computer you should be able to plug it into the laptop.

Hi Kathy,

I was wondering about getting a mouse for this thing.  I am so grateful that I have the computer, I hate to whine, but it is really frustrating.

I have also hit the wrong thing and lost what I was doing....heeheehee  Just gonna tell Ada I'm stealing her nickname, "spastic"!!!!

Thanks Kathy, at least we're in this together, huh?

Hugs

It's my turn to try to help!  I'm so sorry your hands aren't working properly.  I really don't have any good advice on this because I just don't know enough.  I know my hands are giving me issues as well and it's like my mind says to go to one letter and they go to another letter instead.  I think ms can cause jerkiness and mental clarity issues.  My eyes do some sort of jerky thing where I can't focus sometimes.

I really hope that you can get some answers for your problems.  I can so relate to so much you say, and my sister has problems like me as well and it's so good to have someone to talk to about it.  It's like anything, if you keep it all inside and let it fester it really stinks!  Keep me posted on what's going on with you and I'll try to do the same.  I have a call into the neurologist.  I have no doubt in my mind that something is going on, and I'm thinking I should let them know they need to try to find it.

I have had a couple of "spells" where something like this happened with my arm. I called it "movement hesitancy". I had to really concentrate to make my arm go where I wanted it to. It was not like the automatic "hmm, I think I'll grab that pen" and your arm just moved to do it, I had to think through each movement, and will my arm to go.
Thankfully, after a couple of months it went away. Came back...then went away again.

Not sure if it's the same sort of thing, but i can somewhat relate. I would find it really bothersome in the hands, mine seemed to originate in the shoulder area, and that was bad enough, but in the hands, that would be very frustrating and scarey indeed.

Sorry I don't have any answers for you.

**hugs**

Christine

When I used my roommate's laptop for the first time when I went along when she had a conference in Las Vegas, I had a horrible time with that dang little pad.!  At the time, I just had slight tremors, so it was so frustrating!

Several times I hit something wrong and my whole post disappeared.  Arrggghhh!

Last trip I tagged along on, my roomie brought a mini mouse for me to use, and it was much better.

I think those little pads are one of those acquired skill kind of things, and those of us that don't have total control of our limbs have a harder time acquiring such a skill.

Does your son have a mouse for the laptop, or will can you or he buy one for you to use?  I hated that feeling of being out of control; I have enough of that in my life!

Hugs,

Kathy
