multiple sclerosis (ms)???????

I am a 16 year old male and am in good shape. About 2 months ago I got very severe vertigo that eventually went away. More recently I've been getting these vertigo episodes again. I also lift weights, and go into a sauna after a workout. In the sauna I notice that my arms go numb, and don't hurt to a pinch nearly as much as normal. Also, when I take a hot bath I feel a pins and needles feeling in my feet. Does anybody know if this is anything to worry about? I went to my doctor and she doesn't think I should be concerned. I also have a neurologist apppointment in a month but am worried.

I am sure that being anxious can get your mind rolling around and around about what you think you may have.  Sometimes this can cause someone to feel something that may actually be normal.  I have mentioned things to my doctor before that have turned out to be something that many people experience.  For instance, sitting in one place too long can cause some numbness and tingling because of nerve compression.  Most people feel this as a limb "going to sleep".

You are wise to go to the doctor about this to be sure.  If you have a sports injury, you can take medicine to reduce the inflammation.  I mentioned staying out of a hot tub.  I just want to say that I would only do this if your doctor hasn't mentioned anything to you yet.  If your doctor tells you to take warm baths, then go with whatever your doctor says.

I doesn't sound like MS.  In the remote possibility that you do have it, it doesn't mean that you won't be walking, or even that you have to quit lifting.  The great majority of us stay mobile for the rest of our lives.  I remember a couple of teen girls that were diagnosed with MS, and they continue to be active even in gymnastics (they're now 1st year students in college).  I've been sick for about 15 years with MS (diagnosed 3 years ago, though).  I am not in a wheelchair and I work full-time.  So hopefully I've eased your mind a bit, anyway.

Warm regards,
Deb

I'm just kind of nervous. If I had it id think that id have other symptoms. Can all of this be in my head? My vision is fine and I fell strong wen I lift weights. And injury wise, its hard to keep track. I always have some sort of ache or pain from lifting.

A month seems so far away, I bet.  For old people like me, this is not far away.  It is true that time seems to speed up as you get older . . . If you can, keep your mind focused on other things and not your health.   Making yourself worried won't help you at this point.  A neurologist can only tell you what the issue is.

In the meantime, stay away from taking a hot bath and the saunas.  It could be nothing, but you don't want to make things worse if it's related to an injury or a disease.  Have you had an injury?  Inflammation can be made worse by heat and could possible cause some compression of nerves.

Keep us posted about your doctor visit.

Best wishes,
Deb
