Can Topamax cause paresteth

Can increasing Topamax cause a delayed side effect? A month and a half ago, I was put on increased dosage of Topamax. However, I am now and have been for the past week experiencing "pins and needles" in my feet, legs, arms and hands. Every post I read online suggested this side effect kicked in with introduction or increase of the medication, and not a month or more later. I told my neuro's medical assistant (I needed to call anyway) and he said she would let the doc know.

I have other symptoms which may or may not be related...for the sake of simplicity I won't post them for now.

Thank you,

K

Hello and thank you. My doctor said it could be a side effect of the Topamax.  My doctor also recommended fluid increase, which I have been doing. In fact, I bought a bottle of water right after I got off the telephone with them.

They said to call on Monday if the symptoms did not go away and they would do labwork as a precaution.

Thanks again. I love this site because people are so helpful!

I take Topamax also and  had the same symptoms in my hands and feet.  My neuro. told me it was do to a lack of fluids. So try drinking more water. It helped me.

Yes that is one of the known side effects.  I never had it until I had been at may max dose for 6 months.  I have known others that have had issues from the first pill.  hope this helps

By the way, I tried to type the subject "can Topamax cause parasthesia a months after increase?" However the cat jumped on my tablet and the submit button got pressed before I had a chance to finish typing. :(
