Dizzy, Light headed, balance off

On Tuesday 12/17 I took some melatonin 3mg to help me sleep...the next morning I woke up still dazed and losing my balance in the shower and throughout the day. I found out the bottle expired. The following day and throughout the week on Friday 12/20 I was losing my balance or feeling dizzy if I turned my head quickly or got up quickly. Sat 12/21 sat up in my bed and my head is spinning had to lay back down and close my eyes.. did not lose my balance. but Sunday 12/22 sat up and still dizzy had to close my eyes and walk holding onto things till it subsided. Every time I sit up from lying down all night since Tuesday my head is spinning... I am scared and don't know what is going on. I don't have an ear infection nor anything else.

Thank you and Merry Christmas... I told them about the melatonin and was told it would get weaker not stronger, hence, I was told I have vertigo as my ekg was good as well as my blood pressure. but they did say it should be gone in  a week and I have had it for a week now. I don't like taking medications but the one given helped the symptoms. Antivert (generic one M...) I wanted to do something holistic because I don't take any meds always try the alternative.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi!
I am sorry to hear about your medical problems. Melatonin causes postural hypotension and can worsen the symptoms in a person who suffers from a mild variant of postural or orthostatic hypotension (fall in BP when sitting or standing up from a lying down position). Drink plenty of water, clear soups, fresh juice etc. This will help build up the blood pressure and flush out the melatonin from the body. In the morning, first sit up in a reclined position, drink sips of tea/coffee and then eat a toast or something and then get up. This will reduce the dizziness. If symptoms persist, please consult your doctor regarding this. Hope this helps. Take care!
