First, numbness going up both arms and legs; now, deep tingling all the way up arms and legs

Hello.  For several months I had intermittent tingling in pads of fingers; I ignored.  Then my right foot began to go lightly numb, and in a day or two both feet and hands felt numb, and light numbness was felt up to above knees and elbows.  Now, a few more days later, I have deep tingling sensations throughout entire arms and legs, in genital area.  Past two weeks my lips have been numb.  I am fifty one.  I have an appt. in a week for an MRI of my brain.  Please, any advice or hunches.

Thank you so much for your answer.  Have been looking up all ailments.  Some are hard to face.  I am wondering if an MRI that includes both brain and spine would be wisest, and whether I should push for a spinal tap to rule out quickly various possible serious ailments---or include one.
In one day or two days,  I have experienced dramatic increase in pins-and-needles sensations: as if my entire arms and legs in the middle of the night are dotted with raindrops of moving sensation.
Another person has written to say it all the numbness turned out to be simply stress: can this be? How does the body turn stress into pinched-nerve-like effects of numbness in limbs and face?  And I do wonder: is there ANY human being not under multiple and sometimes overwhelming stresses?  But oh, how I hope I am simply an overstressed one.

I am looking up fibromyalgia.  Hope you are feeling better. Hope you can get the MRI, possible somehow?  Surely ins.co. would benefit from your finding out if all clear.

This happened to me as well the dr just put me on lyrica- 75 am and pm and 50 at noon and it has all but stopped. The rheumatologist says it is a symptom of Fibromyalgia and prediabetes. Who knows? Gp also gave me Vistaril to sleep. Good luck to you. My drs just have the state of mind to mask or stop the symptoms, I have little insurance and cannot afford the MRI's and such- I just get the sample pills and am sent on my way. I am female and 48. blessings. DrV3

Hello Dear,
There could be several causes for numbness such as multiple sclerosis, motor neuron disease, diabetes, nerve disorders, circulatory disorders, brachial plexus injury, demyleinating nephropathy etc.You should see a neurologist and go in for MRI and nerve conduction studies to know the cause of your symptoms.Once the cause is known the treatment can be decided.
