Head jerking/tic due to herniation?

Hi, I was wondering how serious this symptom I am having.  I have a c5-6 herniation just right of the midline that has spinal cord compression which effaces the subarachnoid space.  2 weeks after the injury I've developed a head jerk that happens constantly through out the day.  It's making my shoulders and neck very sore.  This has been going on for two weeks now.  Thank you.

I know it's haard, but try and relax...the more stressed u r will cause ur symptoms to be exacerbated........I hope ur NS does more testing.....including a MRI of ur brain......also as carol suggested that mineral deficenceys acan cause problems...have labs done to rule that out also.

RELAX!!!!!

Well, the head jerking seems to be worsening.  My neck pain has also increased as well where the herniation is pressing against the spinal cord.

RunningMom,
Low magnesium can cause muscle twitches and jerks and tics.

If you google for magnesium deficit, tic, you will find tons of information.

Wishing you the best,
Carol

I've been to one Neurosurgeon just one week after my injury before the head jerking started.  I have told the doctor about the head jerking and he says it's from muscle spasms and set me up with another appointment with a new neurosurgeon later this week.  I've been in physical therapy with no improvements.  In fact the pain and symptoms have gotten worse since therapy.  I really don't know if the head jerking is caused by muscle spasms or not since it happens so frequently.

I do not know, but it sounds like ur herniation is against a nerve that is causing the head movement....I would imagine u have been to a neurologist or neurosurgeon......all over the country there are many specialists on spinal injuries and issues....I would deff call the dr and explain what is going on....and make sure there is nothing else besides ur initial dx.

Good luck
