Pain in back of head

7 months ago I injured myself working out.  My Dr, originally diagnosed as a pulled trap muscle and said that the pain would subside in about 2 weeks...to make a long story short...after 7 months I have tried Chiro, PT, had a MRI and bone scan and most recently accupunture.

No one can tell me why I still have pain.  Accupunture was the only thing that really helped.  The MRI and bone scan revealed nothing other than slight degeneration at t1 c7 which is normal for a person my age(27).

Accupunture really took all the pain out of my neck, back and shoulds which were really screwed up.  I am thankful and happy to say that accupunture relieved the pain greatly.  However, I still have significant head pain at the back of my head.  It could be described as a good deal of pressure at the back of my head that intensifies when I strain.  When I walk, the impact of my feet on the ground makes my head and teeth hurt...I can no longer exercise due to this and the quality of my life has been greatly affected by all this.  I have constant head pain...The worse part is...no one can give me an explanation for this....

Please help if you have an answer or the type of medical professional I should consult with..

Thank you,

Charlie

Hi there Charlie!

I'm sorry to hear about your pain, but I'm glad to hear that something is working for you (accupuncture).  Regarding that pressure like pain at the back of your head, how is your blood pressure?  This can be a manifestation of hypertension.  Pain in this area can also be due to stress (work, school, domestic problems, etc).

I suggest you continue your accupuncture sessions, have your blood pressure monitored (3-4x weekly) and take a break from stressful activities.

I hope you get rid of that annoying pain soon! Regards...

I too have continuous constant pain in the back of my head with shooting pains up
both sides to the top.  I don't recall injuring myself, it just showed up one day.  I thought
it was due to stress but I don't feel stressed out now and I have had it three months
with tightness at base of skull and some neck pain.  Have had CT scan and brain
MRI both negative and an Xray of my neck which showed nothing significant.  I have
been on Lexapro (had to come off because of burning sensation.  I have now been
prescribed Lyrica, but haven't taken it long enough to see if it will help.  This headache
has affected my life in many ways, It is extremely hard to get up in the morning when
you know what to expect.  Lying down is the only relief I get from this pain.  I also am
not getting an explanation.  I go back to my neurologist in June, I don't know what he
intends on doing next.  Possible nerve block?  If the Lyrica doesn't help, maybe he
will tell me I have to live with chronic pain, which I don't know how I will accept it.
Good luck to you, I hope you get an answer soon.  Belva
