Throbbing pressure in head upon standing and walking

I am a 38 yr old female.  About a year ago I started to experience a very strange feeling that occurs periodically when I move from a sitting to a standing position and start to walk.  The sensation is as if my head and neck are throbbing with pressure and I have to stop walking or slow down and stop and stand still for a minute or so to make the sensation stop.  Sounds are muffled in rhythm with the pulsations and I sometimes feel as if I will pass out, but never have.  There is no pain.

I have been checked throughly by my GP, a cardiologist, and an electrophysiologist  and none of them could find a cause.  It does seem to happen sometimes when I am hungry and have missed a meal or eaten later than usual.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you for your time.

Hi Lisa you could try to get a sleep test done, you'll have wires hooked up to you while you sleep in an observation room. You could have sleep apnea that is when you have obstruction in your trachea and basically your brain doesn't get enough oxygen, I mean think about it if your brain doesn't get enough oxygen then maybe that's where the pain & throbbing is coming from... I hopes this helps you out in anyway...

I cut out all artificial sweeteners. You MUST do this. Then I realized that my mouthwash contained a variant of saccharin(worst of all the fake sugars) in it. I stopped using it and all symptoms stopped.

I have had two head injuries, causing post concussion symtoms along with body pain, and have found relief with a Chiropractor who specializes in cervical subluxation in Roseburg, Oregon. There are nerves and blood vessels that can become pinched by offset top 1 or 2 vertebrae, or even turned on the occipital condyle. The second which could happen with whiplash. Be examined by someone who will actually touch you and fix it if this is what it is. Why should anyone suffer with bad medicine, and worry.

I have to say that sounds just like mine. I have asked my doctor several times what could it be. He thought taking aspirin would help since I take blood pressure medications and I took that for a week with no help. So I don't know what it is but I have been dealing with it for about 4 years. It happens mostly after sitting or lying for awhile. I will stand up and then all of a sudden my left ;side of my head will start to hurt and then I have to stop walking and just stand there until it goes away and it also affects my left eye. It lasts about 30 seconds to 1 minute

hi. I have experienced these types of migraines in the past.  I also went to a specialist and didn't get much of a diagnosis except it was an  migraine.  I was having a fitness specialist help me with some exercises and she noticed that I hold my breath when I am trying to exert myself in exercising and after some discussion about the headaches I was having she said it could be the cause.  She was right! whenever I feel one coming on I take deep breathes and it goes away quickly. I hope this helps you too.

I developed problems with dairy, aspertame & all yeast products at about the same time & had to go on a very simple limited diet to figure out what was causing the debilitating, life-limiting migraines I started getting - and I still have occasional surprises.  Malted barley gives me migraines as badly as yeast products.  Fioricet takes off the worst edge & sometimes stops my migraine totally.  I would advise you to go on a very limited diet of fresh fruit, vegetables & meat and slowly add other foods & drinks to see if there are any dietary triggers.  Do keep a journal and include any vitamins, supplements, drugs, etc - anything you ingest.  Good luck.  It is SOOO worth it if you find that eliminating some food or drink can give you back your life!
