hi,cord compression do lead to sensory and motor symptoms in lower limbs too.Symptoms suggestive of cord compression are back pain, a dermatome of increased sensation, paralysis of limbs below the level of compression, decreased sensation below the level of compression, urinary and fecal incontinence and/or urinary retention.
Surgery is indicated in localised compression as long as there is some hope of regaining function. It is also occasionally indicated in patients with little hope of regaining function but with uncontrolled pain.
But in your case,it does not seem that you require surgery right now. Please consult Neurologist to find out extent of damage and guiding the treatment acoordingly.
bye and take care!
Yes, I had this same thing with a C5-6 herniated disc with spinal cord compression. Cord compression can affect you from that level down. I had numbness and tingling from the neck down. I had weakness too and hyperactive reflexes. I had to have surgery. Cord compression generally requires surgery when it causes symptoms like this. I would call the neuro right away if you haven't already, especially if this is new.
