brain cyst

I am a 37 year old mother of 3. In Jan of this year I was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer.
Over a 5 month period I subdued some traumatic experiences with my treatments.
In July of this year I had orders from my Oncologist to have a PET scan done to check the status of the
Cancer. Apon reviewing the results a shadow was seen on my brain. So the next day I was
Having a MRI done. I received a phone call the next morning and was told a Cyst was found. But
Was told numerous times "don't worry". The problem is I am worried sick. I have a lot of
Headaches and occasionally I have blacked out and fainted hitting the floor.
The blacking out part has happened as far back as 1999.
I am just wondering if one has to do anything with the other and should I be worried?

Hi, Thank you very much for your question. A brain cyst may remain asymptomatic for long years. But if it is large it can cause headache, paralysis, seizures and gait disorders. Therefore, surgical intervention is essential to remove the large cyst and if permanent damage needs to be avoided.  Craniotomy, needle aspiration and cerebral shunts are common surgical treatment that may help.  Please consult a neurologist right away in this regard. Hope this helps.

I have a colloid cyst in the third ventricle. Most neurosurgeons say they want to watch it. I think to myself watch what? I live in Ga. and have found a neurosurgeon who is willing to remove it. I have also experienced the black outs and seizures along with debilitating migraines. So hopefully this works. Don't ever be afraid to ask for a second third or even fourth opinion. Ask questions until you feel comfortable.

Get a copy of the report. Usually you can get a copy from the place where you had the imaging done if the doctor is being a pain.

Read the report. It may be that you have something like a cyst in the lining of your brain and those you are born with (arachnid or sub-arachnid cysts) and some doctors may not take them very seriously. However, if you are having issues (not that you need another problem right now) it may be that the cyst has enlarged enough that you need to get some attention.

Get the report, find out, and get another opinion.
