mri results

I have mri results from 2005 that I would like to have help understanding.  The doctor I had at that time just blew me off. Since then, I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and trigeminal neuralgia, along with a host of psychiatric labels such as somatoform, anxiety, depression, etc.  I am having a lot of symptoms lately and cannot even stand going to work right now. I just remembered this mri report from 2005 and am wondering if I should ask my doctor to pursue the possibility of MS just to be sure.

The report says:
The fourth ventricle lies in a normal midline position.  The ventricles and sulci are within normal limits.  There are small foci of increased T2 signal in the periventricular white matter in the right frontal and left parietal lobes. The possibility of demyelinating process such as multiple sclerosis needs to be excluded.  There is hypointense or hyperintense mass, and no midline shift. Normal flow void is demonstrated in the visualized intracranial vessels.  The region of the seventh and eighth cranial nerves is well seen and is unremarkable. There is no abnormal signal intensity on the diffusion weighted images. There is no abnormal enhancement in the post contrast images.

Impression:  1. Punctate foci of increased T2 signal in the periventricular wihite matter. Rule out demyelinating process.

Hi, Thank you for your question. Your report suggests that it could be a white matter disease due to demyelination. There can be many possibilities in your case that involve the brain white matter, either exclusively or in combination with grey matter changes. These include metabolism errors, exogenous toxins released by virus, autoimmune disease, leukodystrophy, demyelination, and radiation effects. Spasticity, muscle weakness, paralysis, hyper-reflexia and movement disorder may be the clinical features associated with white matter disease that need to be evaluated thoroughly. However, it is sad to say that there is no permanent cure but conservative treatment & physiotherapy exercises that would help you to regain your normal function and stopping the further progression of the disease. Please consult a neurologist in this regards. Hope this helps.

You might want to do a search for fibromyalgia symptoms and check out all the various sites to get more input on what is associated with this.  I too have fibromyalgia and have found it helpful getting info from more than one place.  Not all places list all the symptoms.
I would also recommend that you avoid Lyrica.  I and others have had many problems with it and a lot of those problems weren't listed as possible side effects.

WELL, I HAVE MY NEW MRI REPORT AND IT SAYS BASICALLY THERE ARE NO CHANGES SINCE 2005  I HAVE SPENT SOME TIME OVER ON THE MS FORUM AND WAS JUST POSITIVE THAT THERE WOULD BE A HUGE PARTY OF LESIONS SEEN ON THE NEW MRI WITH ALL THE SYMPTOMS I'M HAVING.

OH WELL, LIMBO LAND IT WILL BE FOR ME.  I GUESS I WILL SPEND SOME TIME ON THE FIBRO FORUM AND SEE IF ANYONE ELSE IS HAVING THE SAME NEURO SYMTOMS I AM.

IF ANYONE ELSE HERE HAS ANY IDEAS THAT MIGHT HELP, I'D SURELY APPRECIATE HEARING THEM.  I'M GETTING REALLY CRAZY!!!!

I have an appt. today with my primary today and I will show him the report and ask for another MRI.  I have no idea why I forgot about this all these years while I've been going thru all the physical and mental roller coasters.  Thanks for replying to my post.

Given this report, I would want another MRI done for comparison purposes.  I would also ask the doctor specifically about the possibility of MS.
