Hi there. The side effects associated with the use of pregabalin are dizziness, somnolence, tremor and ataxia, peripheral edema, weight gain, hypoglycemia, dry mouth, increased appetite, vomiting and flatulence. Ocular side effects include visual field changes, reduced visual acuity, blurred vision, otitis media and tinnitus, angioedema with respiratory compromise has been reported, dyspnea,  urinary  incontinence, myasthenia, arthralgia, myalgia, etc. You could consult your neurologist if the symptoms are distressing for you. Hope this helps. Take care.

Ben, you are a rambling wreck, to be sure!  I'm so glad you're going to that doctor!  He will like you as a patient, lots of puzzles to solve.  Tell me how that drug does you.  GG

pregablin sounds preety good gonna try it have to ask my gp for it when i go on tuesday to see him .

ggreg - ive been checked for lymph nodes , diabetes and have had mri scans of the pelvis , spine and brain in elimination to the nerve problem i have , spine scan showed wearing of l5 s1 discs but the first neurologist i saw was an honary consultant who said that i have a possibly irritated or damaged pudendal nerve in the pelvis causing symptoms in the perineum like urinary and sexual problems ( pain during ) and is almost impossible to sit in a chair but did say was unlikely to cause problems in the legs and feet but there are a few websites that say itis possible , i used to weight train and bike ride excessively which can lead to this - i believe i may have some kind of infection or something in my stomach or guts though bcoz the last few weeks ive been having cramps aches and pain around my waist stomach and back area which is relieved by b/m's and sometimes eating been having headaches and tiredness aswell .
ill let you know how i get on cheers ben

Hi Ben,
You asked me about my dose and such, I've been taking Lyrica for maybe four or five years now, hard to remember.  I started out with something like 50mg twice a day, and very quickly your doc should know to increase it until you reach a plateau of comfort, which I believe I went to something like 75mg three times a day within a month or two, and last year I went to 100mg three times a day.  Eventually this can be increased to several times that, but I get relief where I am.  Go ahead and take a pill, see what happens, it might make you drowsy at first, then you get used to it if you decide to continue, which if it kills the pain, then you'll want to keep it.  I got relief overnight, took it that evening, woke up in the morning with no pain for the first time in a year or so.

But I think visiting that doc next week is your very best idea.  He can not only make sure you don't have the flu or some other bacterial infection, but he may decide to look at one of two things:  He might want to send you to a cardio-vascular specialist to see if the blood flow to your lower peripheral body is problematic, and I believe that can be associated with diabetes, which will also make your feet hurt; or if you haven't had a spine scan yet, he might order a CT of your lumbar spine.  That's how come I have to take Lyrica and Codeine, I busted up my back in three places in a car wreck and my lumbar spine hurts real bad, my legs are wrecked up, and my feet are killing me, all because my back was rearranged.

One other thing that occurred to me is, since you threw up and so forth when you were taking the other drug, which you were taking for your leg pain, I suppose it is possible that you do have some sort of body infection going on that is causing your lymphs, in particular those located where your inner thighs connect to the body, to swell up and hurt like the devil, and so might be a lymph type problem from infection.  If those lymphs hurt you, tell the doc.  Lastly and least likely is sometimes ill-fitting footwear can cause your legs to suffer, especially since your feet hurt.  Let us know how the doc visit goes if you want to.  And of course if you try the Lyrica, it would be good to also know if it helped you.  Hang in.

I started taking pregabalin just over a month ago, my doctor started me on a low dose 25mg and I increase the dose each week, I'm on 125mg twice a day now and other than a very dry mouth I do not have any other side effects.
I've tried other meds that have made me quite ill so I do tend to increase new meds very gradually just in case.
I hope you find something that suits you and helps with your pain.
All the best.

thanks for your comments - looks like theres alot of side effects to this drug i know i might not get all of them but its all ive been offered and i am reluctant to try it because i dont want to feel werse than i do coz of side effects - im 23 got nerve pains in my perineum legs and feet ive had for 2yrs now i been beggin for nerve block injections but my neuro wont do it and has discharged me without diagnosis or any other form of treatment than pills .

i do think i have a stomach issue at the moment though im seeing my gp next week but i did have a very bad reaction to amitriptyline but i suppose il have to try pregablin and see how it goes , ggreg how long have you been taking this and what milligram are you on ? yeah your right about the opiates i was taken off tramadol and really miss that and gps will not give it unless a specialist says so ( in my case anyway ) .
thanks ben

Ben,
I stand corrected, I must have read a different website for side effects, I'd go with Dr. Sharma most any day.  Vomiting, arthalgia and myalgia all fit your symptoms.  Only thing I ever get is blurry vision and one that was not listed above which is loss of balance.  I AM surprised to read about the arthalgia and myalgia, since the one thing Lyrica does do is decrease pain pretty much everywhere!  Well, that's why forums are so great, you get a lot of opinions from a lot of people, and the suggestions as a whole eventually lead you to a solution.

If you are indeed feeling those side effects, the doc will likely have to go wtih something else, but gosh they are SO reluctant to give some really strong opiate derivatives, which I think all seniors ought to have a bottle of morphine in their medicine cabinets.  Ha!  (Obviously I'm a senior.)  Hope you find a medicine that will help you one day without making you feel worse.  And I still think when you see the doc about another medicine, ask him to make sure you don't have a simultaneous illness of some other origin.  That's just a little too much, two entirely diff medicines giving you same illnesses!  GG

Dear Ben,
I take Lyrica (pregabalin) and I don't have problems like you're describing.  In fact, your side effects don't coincide with those published with Lyrica; rather it sounds like you may actually have a stomach flu perhaps.  Muscle and joint aches and pain, plus throwing up, goes with a bacterial infection, you'll get a fever where it makes your body ache, and if it's a stomach flu, it'll upset your tummy.  Have a regular doc check you for a stomach flu or any flu, and also perhaps take a stool sample to see what's floating around in your guts, and also a blood draw to see if a bacteria shows up in your blood.  Now, a virus will just have to run its course, takes a couple weeks for the main side effects to stop.

Lyrica is really a good medicine for nerve pain, it killed a sharp lower back pain I have that codeine wouldn't touch, which I take codeine for leg problems that come from my injured back.  When this sharp pain showed up, my neurologist gave my Lyrica, and I blessed it as a wonder medicine, sure made me feel better all over, not just the sharp pain.  So, I really think you may be looking at a coincidence, that you have some other health issue bothering you at the moment, which a doc can figure out what you got and give you medicine for it.  Hope this helps.  Let us know what you find out.
