Really painful period

Every month when I'm on my period it is extremely painful. It's so painful that I cry and get really nauseous. It's been like this ever since I got my first period, like 4-5 years ago. It's even extremely painful like the week before I start my period. And I was just wandering if that's normal, because I've heard that everyone's period is different, so I assumed my was normal. Then I heard that periods shouldn't be painful so idk what to think. Also if you know any like natural/ home remedies to sooth the pain that would be great for me to know, cuz I hate taking a bunch of Aleve. Thanks!

By the way, do you exercise vigorously?  That really helps.

You have a hormonal imbalance most likely, though I can't diagnose you.  Obviously we're all different and some people have worse periods than others.  Planetary Herbals makes some good formulas for balancing hormones -- either they work or they don't.  Try the one based on cramp bark and see what happens.
