In the natural medicine field the advice is to eat a moderate amount of fruit unless you live in a tropical climate because of the high sugar content and a large amount of vegetables. But the fructose you're seeing the really bad publicity about is probably high fructose corn syrup., which has had a lot of publicity lately. I doubt you're eating so much fruit as to cause any problems, so I wouldn't worry about it. But I would say that our ancestors didn't necessarily eat a whole lot of the kind of fruit you're probably talking about. Keep in mind that nuts and seeds and squash are also fruits. Our ancestors also didn't eat tomatoes much, as they largely avoided nightshade plants. A lot of these plants which are very commonly eaten today have mixed thoughts on benefit vs. detriment, and most came from the Americas and weren't widely eaten, not even potatoes, which were mostly eaten historically only around Peru. Our ancestors believed nightshades be poisonous, and the original European name for the tomato was the poison apple.
Fructose From Added Sugars is Bad For You, Fruit is NOT!!
Fruits are real foods with a low energy density and lots of fiber.
You’d have to eat very large amounts to reach harmful levels of fructose.
Fruit is a small source of fructose compared to added sugars. It does NOT apply to the natural sugars found in fruits and vegetables.
I am of the opinion that fruit doesn't make you fat. Were our ancestors fat? They ate fruit! What they didn't eat was the processed foods that the food industry formulates to cause people's appetites to go out of control.
Continue to eat fresh fruit. Try to buy organic fruits, especially when you buy berries or tomatoes or the other fruits and vegetables that are known to absorb chemicals. Use whole fruit because it contains fiber that fruit juice is lacking.
