Brewer's yeast isn't a consistent source of B12. Nutritional yeast might be fortified with it, but brewer's yeast isn't. There are non-animal sources of B12, but how much of it actually gets into your system is in controversy. Spirulina, a fresh water algae, is very high in B12, but some don't believe it's well absorbed from it. Still, it's so high some has to get in. The experiment would be to get your levels tested, try the supplement, then get tested again and see if it worked. The best absorbed B12 is, unfortunately, animal in origin, but try the spirulina and see if it helps. That's what blood tests are for!
Thanks. I'll look into that.
Hi Iris~I am not too familiar with the vegetarian form of B12, I have always been under the impression that B12 is best when it is derived from sources such as liver. The one non-meat form of B12 that I DO know of and I take myself, is in the form of "Brewers yeast" Brewers Yeast has ALL the B vitamins in it, not to mention the amino acids, and the Glucose Tolerance Factor mineral, Chromium. I love how it tastes, I put it on my cottage cheese and I just love it. I would try it, you might really like it, and it is a great way to get those needed B vitamins together.
