Boxer's fracture

Frankly speaking i was punching someone and got a fracture/crack in my 5th metacarpel on 05.09.09. i have added the photo of that Xray report. It was my right hand. the hand was casted for 27 days and on 01.10.09 the cast was taken out... after that there is the usual stiffness at the joints but  AT THE FRACTURE SITE THERE IS STILL SOME SWELLING AND ITS PAINING WHILE DOING SOME EXERCSES OR WHILE MOVING THE HAND... IS THAT SWELLING USUAL AND HOW MANY DAYS IT LL TAKE  FOR ALL STIFFNESS AND SWELLING TO BE OK????  please let me know asap... m getting little worried about the swelling...

Hello!

I have mentioned in my post that  you need an X-ray.

If in the latest present day X-ray the healing is complete and there is no fracture do not worry about swelling as this is due to the movements or therapy you are undergoing.

Take some anti inflammatory drugs and the swelling will subside, most important thing is to confirm the healing before proceeding for active therapy.,

Take care!

Hello!

This is due to the stiffness after the fracture healing. During the days in cast your muscles of the hand were virtually at rest and this causes stiffness presently. You need to build up on energy and strength slowly with simple hand exercises with decreasing pain.

Your pain will heal in couple of days with exercise. Check with a latest X-ray how the healing has taken place.

Take care!
