Hello, I have had constant knee pain for 17 years, currently I'm 24 years old. I have had all kinds of tests done since I first started getting knee pain and all of them said I had healthy knees and NO problem was ever detected. All I want to know is if my knees are healthy then why do my knees constantly hurt (I mean 24/7). I had an MRI done a few weeks ago when my knee pain got out of control but that also came out "normal." The only thing doctors (3) were able to identify was that I screamed with pain when they pressed the interior side of my knees (the part where they touch when I stand with my legs together, sorry I don't know the medical term for that particular part).
My knees randomly buckle when going up and down stairs or hills. It is nearly impossible for me to walk downhill now, the pain is unbearable. If it helps then my knees also make popping sounds when I bend them or stand up. Unfortunately I live on the 4th floor of a building with no elevator (have to take the stairs) and I live in a very hilly/mountainous town and I walk everywhere because I don't have a car. I have seen orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, and chiropractors, but no one knows what's wrong.
Can someone please shed some light on this? Is there something wrong that my doctors possibly overlooked? I just want to be pain free, it's something I haven't felt since I was 7.
Well, without a detailed clinical evaluation it would be difficult to determine the cause of your symptoms. If clinical examinations and radiological studies have been normal, one may consider looking at other causes such as neuro-muscular issues such as neuropathies, myopathies, nerve impingement, referred pain from other regions such as the hip etc. Also is suggested on a clinical evaluation a bone scan may be helpful in identifying a few issues related to the bone. I would suggest seeing an orthopedician, preferably at a university or teaching hospital for a detailed evaluation. If a specific cause is identified, it can be managed accordingly.
Hope this is helpful.
Take care!
