Enchondroma

I have been diagonised with enchondroma in the ring finger of my right hand. The finger now has a fracture and it is being treated for the fracture. I wanted to find out how soon after the fracture has healed can I have the surgery to get the tumour removed and how long with the post operative care be?

I had an enchondroma in my left ring finger last year and fractured my finger. I waited 7 weeks so it could "heal" as much as possible and then had surgery including a bone graft from my wrist to fix it. I needed pretty intense PT afterward, mostly to deal with stiffness for about 6 weeks. A year later, I still have some stiffness in the mornings in my finger but overall it's back to normal.

Hi there!

A surgery for an enchondroma is advised only if recommended by your treating doctor. You could have had the surgery with a week of the fracture or could have it after 6-8 weeks i.e. as soon as the fracture has healed well, after consultation with an orthopedician.
Hope this information helps.

Take care!
