Foot pain for several months

Hi,
I started having foot pain, on the side and top of my left foot in the top half  (near the toes).

Inititally it started when snowboarding, and only during snowboarding as a result of i believe  overtightening my boots and bindings. I would snowboard once a week for several weeks, each time the pain would linger a little longer during the next days.

I figured after the season was over, it would just heal up. Its however already been 5 months since i last snowboarded and the foot pain is still there daily when i wake up. and if i give my foot a light squeeze i can feel its still sensitive and not quite right.

Any ideas what type of problem this is. Is it a bone, nerve, tendon problem? and suggestions on what i can do. I really want to fix this as snowboarding season is coming soon:)
cheers,
xav

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi!
In all probability it is due to compression of the L5 and S1 nerve root. The treatment is a combination of pain killers, muscle relaxants, physiotherapy, manual therapy, hydrotherapy, and exercise. Most people respond to this. Please consult your doctor regarding this. Take care!

The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Hence this reply to your post should only be considered as a guiding line and you must consult your doctor at the earliest for your medical problem.

Thanks for your reply.

You're right I should go to the doctor.
Can you tell me what will happen at the doctor? such as would they be able to tell what the problem is by examining the foot themselves, or will they suggest an xray, and does nerve compression show up in xrays? or whichever methods you think they'll most probably use.

cheers,
xav
