Monteggia Fracture

Almost 2 weeks ago I suffered a Monteggia Fracture in an assault. The ulna was broken and radial head of my elbow was dislocated. I underwent ORIF Surgery a day later where a 5in plate was inserted into my forearm. For a week, I was in a splint, currently in an uncomfortable brace and my specialist said he will have me in a sling by Monday. What I'm curious about is just how long the recovery and physical therapy last from an injury this complex, I'm finding liytle information on the web regarding this type of fracture. Any.help on this matter is greatly appreciated.

Hi, it's been 10 months since the fracture and I've regained complete use of my arm/elbow and have zero pain in the area. Only my doctor/surgeon says that he can still see the "fracture line" in the x--rays. I'm not a smoker, could there be any other underlying causes to why he still sees the fracture line?

I have a bone stimulator but unfortunately I haven't used it on a daily basis, but will do so now for a month as recommended.

Hi there!

It would usually take 4-6 weeks for the fracture to heal. Physiotherapy is initiated depending on the type of fracture and joint stability. Casting may occasionally be needed for stabilization; while a complete recovery may take 3-6 months.
Hope this information is helpful.

Take care!
