Pain on top of right foot

I have had a dull aching pain on the top middle of the foot.  The pain starts about a half inch from the base of my toes and is very centralized.  I just went for a 4 mile run and now it is throbbing and a more intense pain.  I do not lace my shoes very tightly because I lose circulation when I do.  I do wear Innov8 shoes, which are minimalist shoes, and I have been running on a treadmill with an emphasis of trying to run on the balls of my feet rather than pounding down through the heel.

There aren't any physical signs of bruising, but it does hurt if i press down on the area of the foot that is affected.

Thank you Dr.!  I actually did end up going to see a podiatrist and he told me it's likely a metatarsal stress fracture, but we were unable to see it in the X-rays.  I am in a boot and will go back next week to see if we can view any calcification/healing to assess the damage.  Thank you for your response!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi!
Foot pain on the top of the foot could be due to stress or hairline fracture of a metatarsal bone. Another possibility is tendonitis or inflammation of a tendon. Over-straining the foot as in running could be the cause.   Foot pain can also be due to arthritis. Faulty foot wear is another cause: the top portion of the foot could be rubbing against the shoes.
Since a confirmed diagnosis cannot be given on net please consult your doctor regarding this. Hope this helps. Take care!
