Please Dr. what does all this mean?

Dr> I have been having pain in both knees for several years now and I finally got around to getting x rays done. I need your help translating the results. I'm very concerned. Here are the results:

IMPRESSION:
1.) Minor degenerative changes to left knee with trace effusion.
2.) Probable small cartilage lesion or infarct within distal left femur.
3.) Small intra-articular body adjacent to the medial facet of the patella.
4.) Degenerative changes to right knee.

My doctor has scheduled an MRI on the right. The one that has been giving me the most trouble and she wants me to see an Orthopedist. What does all this mean? Your help would be grealty appreciated.

Hello!

In an MRI it will be clear if you have any ligament tears or any other associated soft tissue issues.

With X-rays it is clear that there are some degenerative changes in your right and left knee which can be present even with normal aging process and this has to be clinically correlated by an orthopedician.

You can use ice packs and take intermittent NSIADs to relieve some pain and inflammation.

Take are!
