Side of foot pain

A man stood on my right foot (accidently).  That night the pain was very bad, my foot had swollen slightly (towards the side of the foot) and it was slightly bruised.  It was that sore, I couldn't walk the stairs to bed, I had to crawl up on my knees.  I could barely even wiggle my toes.  Now, 9 days later, while it's not swollen or bruised anymore, it's still sore down the side of my foot and I still can't put full weight on it when I'm walking.  My little toe was very sore yesterday, but today the pain is more down the side of the foot rather than around the little toe.

Sometimes, it feels better but a while later, it could be sore again.  It comes and goes.  I expected after 9 days it would be fine, but it's still not.  I haven't been to a doctor, I've been waiting to see how it heals itself.  Any help would be great.

Thanks for replying.  I was thinking of going for an x-ray, but since it's been 11 days now, I feel silly after leaving it so long.  When it happened, that night I elevated it on a stool while sitting on the settee and I also rested a bit.  I did put any ice on it, and I put a bandage on it for a few days to give it support.  But I took it it off because I was sure it'd get better.
When I walk, I can feel twinges of pain down the right side of the foot which prevents me from putting full weight on it.

I would suggest getting an x-ray to make sure there is no fracture.  While it seems remote that someone stepping on a foot would cause this if it was more of a stomp it could be enough pressure at just the right spot to fracture the 5th metatarsal (long toe bone on the side of your foot).
With any injury the best thing to do is always Rest, Ice, Wrap it with an Ace bandage and Elevate it.  For pain and swelling you can take Ibuprofen- as long as you don't have an allergy or stomach problems where you can't take NSAIDS.
I hope it feels better soon.
