Ankle & Lower left leg issues from accident

In 2007 while attenting a baseball game and stepping into a chair in the row below me the chair collapsed and crushed my lower left leg.  I did not break any bones.  I ended up in the emergency room days later on the verge of compartmental syndrome and a procedure was done to relieve the pressure in my leg.  I then ended up having to have surgery to remove some nucrotic tissue, and awhile after that had another surgery in which a skin graph was done.  I have pictures from all of this.  During the surgery the surgeon had to cut through a vein and the blood flow to the foot was expected to re-route itself over time.  Years later my ankle still swells up to the size of a tennis ball if I am on it too long.  I also have an almost constant pain in my lower leg area and ankle that sometimes has to be treated with medication for pain relief.  I am concerned that something is still not right in my leg.  I do not feel that after this much time I should still be having the swelling and pain.  I am seeing a vasculor surgeon soon, but have been to several doctors that I have paid and been told this is not really their area of expertise.  Please help, and what do I need to do.  Desperately seeking relief.

Hey icepd, have you had a rheumatoid panel done to check for arthritis?  Injuries to this extent with all of the operations can develop arthritis.  It doesnt necessarily have to be rheumatoid, but it can be a form of arthritis.  Also, you may have alot of scar tissue in your leg/ankle causing the swelling and pain.  It is good that you are seeing a vascular surgeon, he will be able to see if the bloodflow was ever truly restored.  I wish you the best of luck and hope you feel better soon.

Soft tissue injuries can be way more devastating than anactual fracture.I think you are heading in the right direction seeing a vascular specialist. You might mention RSD as a possibility to your Dr. Or,you may want to look @ the RSD website to see if you think you have the symptoms.Good luck to you!
