I'm 32 year male, my accident was last year June, 2017. Job accident, broke my tibia and fibula about 2-3 inches above my ankle. Open compound fracture, surgery clean the wound, insert nail rod in tibia with 4 screws to lock, and skin graft on wound site where bone broke skin.
After PT I can now walk, climb stairs, ladders, jump from chair and starting to run with a limp, I walk without limp. No pain unless someone hit my injured leg area, only discomfort now and than but goes away in seconds. Soreness when I do lots of walking or play sports but no pain. Pretty much getting back to normal after a year post surgery
But when I visit my doctor for follow up, X-Rays still show my tibia bone still healing on broken tibia site. Doctor said this a delayed union and it should healed in time. He ask me if I'm in pain and if so he'll do bone graft and insert a bigger nail rod. But I'm in no pain other than slight discomfort and soreness when I do heavy activities. I wonder will my tibia bone will heal, there like 2 pieces, one side is healing and the other side has a very small gap. I have no pain and I walk normal with my rod, is this a delayed union? If so I don't need bone graft surgery?
