I had 3 pins put in my left hip at age 12, then shortly after it healed I had 3 pins put in my right hip, I have always had pain in my hips since a young age and just thought that's life.
I have restricted movement and some times when the weather is bad I slip and it feels as if my inner joint is going to come apart.
Also I drive a 1.5 hours to work each way, getting out of the vehicle after getting home can be quite painful.
I'm thinking about having the pins taken out but I'm terrified as to the out come I turn 50 in july the pins have been there for 38 years.
its nice thinking about being normal and having full range of movement in my hips no pain I wouldn't know how to act.
MRI being done is out of the question, At the age of 8,  I was hit by a stray bullet which is lodged by my heart, I was told I wouldn't make it and the bullet was to close to my heart for surgery and it was left there, fat tissue has grown around the bullet and isn't noticed. its been there 42 years LoL.
My feeling the pins are now as if you were to put a nail into a tree it eventually grow around the nail, I'm thinking my hips have done the same to the screws in my hips, and fear surgery, Terrified of the unknown has anyone been here and what suggestions would you give me, I a Union Roofer by Trade and my work is physically demanding.
Like I've said my life has been with pain should I, keep carrying on with it as is our has the forms of medicine surgery at the present came far enough in 2014 to take care of this and have better results than in my vision. Thanks everyone who responds

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi!
It is difficult to comment on this on net. How much and how far she can walk depends on the fracture type. If it was a stable pelvis fracture then your mother can walk with help of crutches or a walker after a month. However, she should not put full weight on the injured pelvis side for about three months. Thereafter too she may take another few months to be able to walk without support of a cane.  Please discuss with her doctor. Take care!
