swelling & pains after cast removal

8 weeks ago i had an accident resulting from fall and sustained a complete fracture of my fibula(distal part). My left leg was in an awkward position, it was like twisting when i was tumbling down the stairs. Since d fracture was in good alignment & surgery was not necessary, a POP was applied & was removed after 7weeks. Dr said il soon be fine..Several days after d cast removal im still experiencing pains evry time i take some steps even if im not putting too much weight at d affected leg.The range of motion is also very minimal, the whole ankle is still swolen and stiff..Could there be something wrong that needs to be ruled-out?

Hello!

Swelling and inflammation will be present after removal of the cast. Remember this is due to stiffness and you would need to take NSAIDs such as ibuprofen or naproxen for decreasing your pain and also should apply ice packs for further relief.

Try to go for present day scans to make sure that your healing is complete and start physiotherapy.

Slowly and progressively do weight bearing and as the swelling and inflammation decrease you will be able to move around freely if your fracture healing is complete.

Take care!
