what causes ribcage cartilage buildup ?

hello was wondering what causes rib cage bones to pop out of place , ive went to the doc several times before and he has literilly poked a rib back into place.  ive had rib cage tenderness, before and one doc stated that it may be arthritus of the rib cage . anyways ive went to him recently and ive been having pain on my left side of ribs more along the base line . from front to back or back to front how ever you look at it . i also have a lump or mass of some sort on my left side, right at the bottom base of my rib cage. Doc said it may be  cartilage build up . Well what exactly causes that ? whatever it is i can feel it when i sit , im limited to turning to the right it starts to hurt my back ! he gave me flexeral  but it didnt help . it only knocked me out ! anyways ive called the nurse and told her ,but havent heard anything else back , except this morning i got a phone call stating that my prescription is ready , wth i wasnt looking for more meds , i am trying to find out what this crap is ! it bothers me at times  ... now i have a cold or flu im  sneezing, runny nose ,and have a bad raspy wheezing cough and no appatiete . Anyways  if they called me in a prescription arent they suspose to call me back and tell me what they called in ?

anyways my main concern is this so called cartilage build up lump on the bottom base of my ribcage on the left side .
i wanna know what causes it and should i be worried about it ???

Thank you .. 2young

I too have had a lump on or near my lower left rib. It doesn't hurt, just feels really weird and uncomfortable. It feels like my rib moves & runs on it$ I suffer from panic attacks & hyperthyroidism & didn't know if that had something to do with it?? Anyway I have brought this up to my dr several times and she doesn't seem concerned but she hasn't even felt it. So I would love to know what's causing this so It will stop adding to my anxiety! Thanks to anyone that can help!

Do you still have this lump?  I have it also on my left rib cage.  The Dr said it is costochondritis and told me to stop running for 6 months.
