4cm hemorragic cyst... should I be worried??

My history: I lost my right ovary to a large dermoid cyst in 1996  and just this last September I had laparoscopic surgery on the remaining ovary due to another dermoid that was 8.2 cm in size. The doctor was able to remove the cyst only and reconstruct my left ovary. Now (fours months later) I have found out that I have a 4cm hemorragic cyst. I am very worried, because my partner and I have been TTC. I just don't want anymore surgeries. I heard that they can go away on their own so that is what I am hoping for. Has anyone had experience with these types of cyst?

I have good news! I had another ultrasound last week and my Dr. says it looks like there is only one cyst (the hemmorhagic one) and it has shrunk a cm! She says chances are it will continue to shrink. I am hoping for the best.

Im in the same situation as you, and it scares me silly, I had surgery 5 months ago for a very large 14cm cyst, and that scared the hell outta me, my surgery was complicated cause the cyst had wrapped it self to a loop of my colon, and bladder and my stomach, I was so sore afterwards, but never really recovered properly, as after the op, after I had my left ovary, tube removed, I had a lot of pain, and they kept blaming it on the op, and that my bladder and bowel would take a while to heal as well, I told my consultant that they was more cysts there on my right hand side, my consultant told me i was imagining it, I demanded a scan cause I was in agony 6 weeks after op, and yep 2 cysts which they think is haemorraghic ones, and that they would disappear and that they would see me in a year I told them no they needed to keep an eye on things, well still in agony and 2 weeks ago another scan, due to me requesting a scan, and now I have 3 haemarragic cysts in the same ovary, all at 5cm, the 3rd one had come and grown within 2 weeks to 5cm, so yep I too am scared, cause I know they are growing bigger and I feel tugging and deep bearing down pain, and still messing me about, but I suppose with mine I go on 24th jan and it probably be lets sit and watch again, just another thing as well I had all this problems in my 20s and struggled to get pregnant until they did a laproscopy, and they did a womb ablation and an histosalpigram thats dye through your tubes, and hey presto the pregnancies happened, after my 2nd child I had a hysterectomy, but with each of my pregnancies I always got a cyst which once the pregnancy became established it dissolved

At this point she seemed more concerned about the bigger cyst. Thank you for your advice. I am hoping to be pregnant soon, but really scared that I will possibly need another surgery soon. I am so frustrated. I can't understand why I keep getting cysts (different types none the less). They do not run in my family, I have a healthy BMI, and I don't drink alcohol, soda, or coffee and I'm a non-smoker... what gives?

What does the doctor think about that small solid area?  Since you recently had surgery in the area, scar tissue is also a possibility.  I would say continue TTC and get your family started while you still have a surviving ovary, and if the doctor is not worried, then try not to be worried yourself.  Easier said than done, I know, since I myself am a chronic worrier.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I am very stressed out about this news, even though my doctor tells me not to worry about it too much. She said that the 4cm cyst appears to be fluid (blood) filled. I forgot to mention that they also found a smaller cyst that appears to have a tiny solid area. So, should I be more freaked out about that? The ultrasound report said "Left Ovary contains a complex cyst 4.0X4.5X4.5 cm with no flow probably hemorrhagic cyst. A smaller cyst 2.1X1.3X2.6 contains a small solid area on cyst wall 0.9 that does show a small amount of blood flow on color doppler. Free fluid cul de sac approx. 26 ml."

It might just be a functional cyst that is breaking down. I hope that's all it is. I can imagine how troubling this must be so soon after surgery. Did the doctor describe the cyst at all? Most cysts are fluid filled. As long as it is not solid like a dermoid, there's hope for it to resolve naturally.
