I have cyst's help!!!!!!!!!!!

I started having very bad pains in my  side in january and was sent to hospital for 5 days where they eventually found out in that I had ovarian cysts, so they took them out in march I had a 15cm adnexal mulitseptated cyst on my right ovary and behind that one they found 2 others measuring at 7cm and 5cm respectively. All lab tests on them came back normal and I had no follow-up after my operation.

Mid november I went for an ultra sound again as I started getting similar pains on the left hand side My ultrasound revealed another cyst had formed on my right ovary (my lucky side obviously) but this one is different. this is what the ultrasound report said..............................." Arising from the right adnexa into the midline there is a 7.2 x 5.6 x 6.1cm multi-loculated, complex looking cystic structure, which contains some internal echoes and demonstrates blood flow on colour flow Doppler. This is presumably ovarian in origin as the right ovary was not seen separately. A trace of free fluid is noted within the POD."

Now because of this I have an urgent referral to gynae tho im not being seen until the 22nd of december. My question is whats the difference between the 2 types of cyst, will I need another operation and is fluid in the POD?!? a bad thing? anybody else had similar happen to them?

thanks in advance for any help/advice

I'm sorry you have to deal with this again.  It makes me so mad when we are in such pain and they still won't work us in, especially when it is something we worry ourselves sick about.  Most doctors want to remove complex cysts because they have a higher percentage of being cancer (DON:T PANIC!!  MOST CYSTS ARE BENIGN!).  It is most likely that they will want to remove the problematic ovary.  That could take care of your problems.  Hopefully the left ovary will behave it's self and not cause you any trouble.  Please let us know what you find out on the 22nd.

I feel for you. It is bad enough to deal with this once. Far worse to face it a second time and wonder if it could happen again. You did not mention your age. If these are strictly ovarian cysts, then removal of the ovaries should end it, but I do not like to see anyone go through this if still too far from natural menopause. Removal of the problematic right ovary might help. It is impossible to predict if the left ovary will develop cysts thereafter, but you can live a normal life (hormones/ reproduction) with a single ovary.

I was in hospital last week because of it, had a searing pain in my right side and was bent double for 2 days. They did another ultrasound and the cyst has grown another 1.5cm and there seems to more fluid in the POD. but still with all this I did not get to see gynae (went into A&E) as they felt that because I had an appointment soon they would deal with it then.

Im just concerned that this is going to keep happening, and to be honest I dnt want to have to keep having operations and ultrasounds! just want this all to go away, but Iv been told that it won't :-(

I am so sorry you are having to deal with another cyst.  Have you ever been told you have a condition like endometriosis?   Are you pre-menopausal?  It is a good sign that you had pathology run on your other cysts and that they were benign.  The cysts sound like they are similar.  Different radiologists describe them slightly differently.  But, any time you get cysts that are complex and over 5cm, you usually do need surgical intervention.   The unfortunate thing that that there is no "for sure" way to know if a cyst is benign or malignant without surgical biopsy.  Cysts that are malignant do often present as multi-loculated with a blood flow.  But, there are other benign complex cysts that also look this way on a scan.  I wouldn't worry about the trace of free fluid....my gyn/onc has told me that some free fluid is normal.  It is when it is a large amount of fluid that it becomes a warning sign of cancer.  This does not sound like the case from your scan report.  This time, I think it is important you ask your doctor to see if you do have endometriosis and maybe even get  a second opinion on the pathology of your mass.  Rarely, a type of tumor called a borderline tumor presents in this way and recurs in the manner than yours did.  It is considered an extremely low grade malignancy that is usually cured by surgery.  But, the pathology isn't always clear on these types of tumors so it could have been missed the first time.  The key is trying to avoid having more of these large tumors.   You may want to discuss this with your doctor. There may be some medication and closer monitoring that can help you avoid getting another large cyst.   I have heard from others who have had the same findings as yours and it was benign.  Keep us posted on how you are doing!  Hang in there!
