Am I the biggest idiot in the world??

At a follow up with my gyno yesterday, I learned that my four 2-3 cm cysts (left) have not gone away as hoped, but have grown to 3-4 cm, so I am scheduled for laparoscopy on Thursday.  The doc will remove the left ovary, and the right Fallopian tube (that's a long story).  I had a laparoscopy 20 some odd years ago (unrelated) and a C-section for twin birth 18 years ago.  Also had major plastic surgery to tuck my tummy and reduce my breasts 6 years ago, so it's not like I've never gone under the knife.

Nevertheless, I actually agreed to go to a local barbeque joint that has live music, with friends on Wednesday night, to eat brisket and meet one of the musicians, sort of a blind date/initial meeting.  I hadn't really given the surgery much thought, even though it's going to be the next morning!!  What on earth was I thinking???  Had I forgotten all about bowel prep (which I'm not even sure I'll have, but doesn't everybody?), packing for the surgery and subsequent recovery at my mom and dad's house, post-op symptoms....???

Since I had the big C, and the extensive cosmetic surgery, did I imagine that this would be nothing?  Am I in complete denial?

Julie

P.S. I'm canceling on the barbeque and the musician....  Boo.  :-(

Hi you're not the biggest idiot in the world unless that was you who cut me off on the highway today. I hope you are feeling better. Your post made me laugh. Best of health to you!

Well, I didn't have to do a complete bowel prep after all, just an enema, so I went ahead and met the musician, who turned out to be cute and charming, but with manic energy like a teenager (he's 39!) and who is probably one of the tiniest men I've ever met, without actually having dwarfism.  I think he must have bought that shirt in the boys' department!

My surgery yesterday went fine, just took a long time to climb out from under the grogginess and then couldn't urinate for a while, so my family had to wait on me for hours to be released.  Today I'm sore and my biggest complaint is shoulder pain.  I had questioned my gyno beforehand, and she assured me that she is careful to press out, or otherwise remove, all the CO2 from the abdomen following the procedure, in order to reduce shoulder pain.  Also, her nurse told me that they rarely hear complaints about shoulder pain, so I incorrectly assumed I might not have much of that, but I assumed wrong. A bit of reading I've done online today suggests that the problem could be due to cell death caused by the gas, in which case expressing it from the abdominal cavity afterwards might not help much.

I'm using a heating pad and taking Advil.  (The Percocet made me vomit, so I won't be using that any more.)
