Any ideas? Post Op Question.

I had my laparotomy on Wednesday and have been doing well but my stomach hurts.  Not my incision but my actual stomach.  I have been eating well and going to the bathroom, but I still feel bloated and icky.  Any ideas on what I could eat, drink, or do to help it feel better?  I actually thought I was going to throw up today.

I just sent the hubby for 7-up.  I never thought of that, but that is what my mom always gave me when I was a kid and had a stomach ache.  Thanks for the idea!

The only medicine my doc prescribed was oxycodone, which I only took the first night home.  I have been taking Tylenol, but actually haven't taken any today.  I did try some camomile tea and that seemed to help some.  I will try calling the doc tomorrow, but not really sure if there is much they can do.  Hopefully it will just pass soon.

I am tired of being bloated, but still have to say I have less pain now then I did before my surgery, so at least there is a positive side!

I was thinking the same as TrudieC.  The meds started upsetting my stomach, especially the antibiotic.  I made sure to eat at least something with the AB, but still felt icky.  Same with pain meds.  They can upset your stomach.  I alternated the pain med with extra-strength Tylenol as soon as I could tolerate it.

The bloating is going to persist for a bit longer.  At least mine seemed to go on for weeks along with the swelling.  I ate quite a bit of yogurt and dairy to help coat my stomach.

Have you noticed anything that makes you feel worse or better in food or drink?  I find 7-up soothing, so drank it even though everyone said I should avoid sodas (carbonation).

So sorry you're not feeling well.  I wonder if the pain meds might be affecting your stomach.  I know that I need to take a drug to eliminate ulcer like symptoms when I take any NSAIDS.  You should give your doctor a call and see what he can order for you.  The bloating will gradually go down over the coming weeks.
