Biopsy or Oorphectomy?

I have a 9mm dermoid cyst in an ovary.  My doctor wants to do a laparoscopy to remove both ovaries instead of doing a biopsy to see if I even have cancer or not.  I do have some risk factors like breast & colon cancer in family, but no BRAC1 or 2.  Also had fertility treatment and no pregnancies.  Is this radical?

99 percent of dermoid cysts are benign so i am confused about
Your doctor wanting to do such a radical procedure. Is it because of the link between fertility treatments and ovarian cancer? I would go for a second opinion. I have a 8 cm dermoid and my doctor wants to remove it via robotic laporoscopy and try to save my ovary since I want more kids in the future.  Good luck

Is the cyst encompassing both?  It would make sense you might have to take one.  I am having surgery on Thursday because it is silly to biopsy when you are already in surgery.  Maybe time for a second opinion.
