should i be concerned?

I am 50 years old and still on the BCP.
I had a CT Scan with contrast because my PT thought i had a kidney stone (blood in urine and backpain).  Received the results.. all was fine with the kidneys - no stone found.  But they found this:
-multifibroid heterogeneous bulky uterus
-bilateral ovarian follicles measure up to 2.0 cm maximal dimension.
-trace amount of free fluid in the cul-de-sac likely physiologic.

I have an appt. w/ my gyno next week... i'm just a little worried.
Can you provide any insight? is this all normal?

Who knows.  We've had women get mega-cysts while on BCP, and that's not supposed to happen, either.  These things are a mystery and I think it is even for the doctors.  I assume you were not on BCP 100% of your menstrual life, correct?  Some follicle remnant structures are probably visible on any ovary that ovulated at some time in its history.

Thanks MarieMichele!
I'll quit worrying! :o)
I have my annual exam w/ my gyno in a few days... last appt. she did said she was taking me off BCP at age 50... so this was the year I stop and go natural... my husband and I were going to immediatley set up an appointment w/ Dr. Brown who wrote 'The Youth Effect' for HRT (yes, my husband is going to get tested as well!).

This pain in my back and the urination/constipation issues just happened to flare prior to my annual appointment.  I guess that's good because now my gyno can more specifically dig in (so to speak)...

...one more question... I though a woman was not able to get follicle cysts while being on the BCP (because she is not actually ovulating)... is that true or a myth?

Thanks!

The follicles (cysts?) sound small enough to be of little concern.  Probably normal.  Not sure if you should still be on BCP.  How can natural menopause occur if still on BCP?  Not sure what, if anything, it does to interfere.  Not to mention the health risks (heart attack & stroke) that increase with age on BCP.

The uterus sounds like it has some serious fibroids.  They themselves can be trouble-free for some.  For others, they can lead to serious bleeding issues.  When they are bad enough, it can lead to a hysterectomy.  After menopause, fibroids are supposed to shrink and become less of a problem.
