Complex Ovarian Cyst -Scared

My gyn has been following cysts and fibroids in me since 8/12.  I have four fibroids and two cysts on my right ovary.  One has remained 2cm but the other has gone from 2.5cm to 6.9cm and is now considered a complex cyst.  Doc gave me CA125 test which came back at 78.  Doctor made it very clear that he is not overly concerned about Ca125 but just as a precaution has referred me to a specialist, who I will see next week.  He said he is almost positive it is nothing more than a cyst but just wants to be sure and wants the specialist to look at my results.  He recommends having the cyst and most likely the ovary removed as well as the uterus because of the problems caused by the fibroids.  I know he told me not to worry but of course I can't help it.  Has anyone one through this type of thing?

We are the same age and I had similar issues.  I had multiple fibroid tumors and did elect to have a hysterectomy in 2011. It was the best decision I have ever made.  I had the da Vinci robotic procedure and the recovery was rather easy. Went back to work in 2 weeks!  I have also had ovarian cysts for years.  Most recently I had a 6.1cm one on my left ovary.  We watched it for a few months and it shrunk every month. I ended up having my gyn go in due to the pain I would get once a month when I ovulated and he was able to just drain the cyst and preserve my ovary.  Just my experience, hope it helps.

If I was just going to guess from what you have written the first thing I would think of is Endometriosis.

I had a 10cm complex cyst and my CA-125 was 38 and 78 at two different times.

The CA-125 is also used to detect inflammation for Endometriosis.

If I were you I would find a new Gyno and one that specializes in Endometriosis.

Sounds like they would have to do a lap and remove the fibroids and Endo.

This is just from my experience.

Fibroids are not my specialty however I know they can be removed without having to remove your uterus, same with the cyst. A good surgeon can remove the complex cyst and save your ovary.

If you want you can read my profile and see the issues I have had. I have many journals about my journey with Endometriosis as well. PM me if you have any questions :)

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
HI,
Although there may not be any risk of cancer, a large ovarian cyst needs to be removed. The decision to remove the uterus will depend on the whether you want to preserve childbearing and menstrual function. But may be removed because of the long standing multiple fibroids.
Hope this helps.
