Hi I am 42 years old and have never had any health problems. On May 16th I woke up at 4:00 in the morning in sever abdominal pain on my right side. My husband took me to the ER and they got an IV in me and did a cat scan. The first ER doc told me I had a bad case of constipation and made me get an enema even though he knew my pain was coming from the right side of my abdomen. This made no sense to me since I told him I had been regular and there is no way I would be in that much pain from constipation when I just went the day before (they were giving me pain meds stronger than morphine because the morphine barely took the edge off the pain). Then shift change at the hospital and the new doc says he wants to run more tests and keep me over night because the radiologist says he saw fluid around my apendix area. So they do another cat scan this time with the dye in me and contrast liquid and they see even more fluid. So the doctor wanted to do laparoscopic surgery and take my appendix. When I woke from surgery I found out that it turned out to be a large cyst on my ovary that had ruptured and the fluid they saw was blood from that and it had irritated my appendix as well. So they removed the appendix and the cyst and the Ovary was left in tact. I recovered pretty well now it's been almost 4 weeks. My main question is, can the cyst come back or is it more likely I will get another one? I know there are people who are prone to them but is it strange to get one at age 42 after never having one before (that I know of)? Last night and this morning I have been getting some minor stabbing pains in my lower right abdomen and I am worried something is happening in there again. I had asked the gynecologist when I went back for follow up how long he thought it took to grow and he said probably a few months. The doctor showed me pictures of the cyst that they took while in there and the thing was twice the size of the ovary it was attached to! I go back the 26th for another recheck. I am just looking for some information because I've never had a cyst before and so I'm worried about getting another one. I also can't stop thinking about that stupid doctor that wanted to send me home with an enema and a diagnosis of constipation so quickly. It shakes my faith in doctors. Any feedback from others with experience would be helpful. Also I had no noticeable symptoms of having a cyst, my periods were regular and normal as usual, I had no pain or anything before that night. I had been dieting before that and lost 14 pounds and I had just reached my goal a few days before this...now I am a couple pounds lighter than my goal haha I guess one good thing came from this.
