Does this mean surgery?

Hello.  I am 43 yrs. old. I recently had a vaginal ultrasound.  The results showed ‘a small uterine fibroid, some ovary cysts, and thickened endometrium’.  This is all the info I received.  My gyn. did say she would do a biopsy if I wanted if meds (progesterone) didn’t help with periods.  They have been heavy and irregular.  My problem is that I blamed pain in abdomen, pelvic pain and weakness, and pain during intercourse on my fibromyalgia (diagnosed 9 yrs ago).  Should I go to gyn. again and explain all this to her since I got the ultrasound results?  What is the next step?  Is a hysterectomy possible w/all these issues and child-bearing not an issue?  What do you suggest as my next step?

Just wanted to say welcome to the forum. Can't add much to the above .. all good advice. Let us know how your next appointment goes. Regarding the cysts, they are fairly common with younger women and they may just want to monitor them.

In any case, explain everything to your Dr. and keep us posted,

Good luck,
Sandy

I just called to make an appointment to discuss this all with my gyn.  She did give me progesterone (this was before the ultrasound).  I did not see her the day of the ultrasound. She mailed me the results. I will go see her soon for more clarification.  Thank you.

What did your gyn tell you to do at your visit with the ultrasound?  Is he/she putting you on meds? That would be the first course of action, I believe. And then a repeat ultrasound to see if the cysts have resolved themselves and if your endometrium stripe is still thick or not. If you are having periods still, then depending where you are in your cycle would explain the thickness.  Maybe you should just call your doctor for clarification?

Having a hysterectomy i was told by the Gyn. would be a good idea, went to another one and she was against it,unless i kept the ovaries, well with continuing cysts ,and i had my endometrosis lasered off.but whatever you do dont go for any keyhole surgery that they do through the belly button. Most people i know including myself have ended up with umbilical hernia's.Now thats not any fun at all, hope this helps you a little  bit.
