If you're concerned about cancer, you also may want to go to a Gynecologist/oncologist rather than an Ob/gyn. The lead doctor in my case was a Gyn/oncologist who was working with my Ob/gyn. You need to have your records sent prior to the appointment. If you have a fax you can write the request along with where you want them sent. Ask for a fax # when you set up the appointment. If your doc asks, just state that you want to explore various treatment options.
I had 3 opinions prior to my surgery, 2 wanted to operate right away, one recommended "watchful waiting." Had the cyst been cancerous, "watchful waiting" could of had serious implications for my survival. My cyst was the suspicious type with septations.....not the water balloon type which is almost always benign.
Hi Joanie thanks for the advice honestly I have not thought about a third opinion I think it is because I am so exhausted by this process so far. But after reading your post I plan to do so. Very happy to here you are doing well, I wish you all the best!
I just had a laparotomy for a 5.5 cm multiloculated cyst. I'm this/close to 200 pounds and 50 years old. The laprascope didn't work out due to adhesions, endometriosis and scar tissue from an ectopic pregnancy at 29. My weight was not a factor. I have a bikini cut under my stomach and it's healing perfectly.
Get a third opinion quickly before the cyst gets any larger. If you're in physical distress you're not likely to be able to exercise. You could rupture the cyst. Depending on the composition of the cyst, you may still be able to get a laparoscopy, but 6.5 cm is pushing the limits of this option.

Just one little tip to weight loss!
It is much easier to eat less calories, than to have to work extra to burn them all off.
Eating healthier choices, and less, will keep you at a equalibrium for the day. And any excercise you then do, will be put to working off your weight you have. :)
I just want to start with saying that I am surprised that they waited this long, regardless of your weight. Cysts on the ovary are extremely bad when they don't go away after our period (it is normal to get them during our periods). I know first hand because my mother got one when she was 16, and they didn't know what it was then, and it ended up twisting her ovary completly and had to remove her ovary along with other things. They told her she could never get pregnant, but she did with me. And when I was 17, I also got an ovarian cyst that stayed and caused tons of pain. They tried three diffferent birth controls over a year or so and one finally made it go away.
I am terribly sorry yours has come to this!
They can prescribe pain medication, such as vicodin, that can help ease your pain.
I had to go on it for a while with mine so that I could continue to work.
So first I would suggest that you ask your doctor to prescribe you something.
Hopefully it will ease the pain and you can start your weight loss!
Good luck and Best wishes to you! Stay strong! :)
