Hemmorhagic Ovarian Cyst/Enlarged Uterus

I have been suffering from lower pelvic pain for a couple years now. It started off related to sexual arousal and activity. I would get a pain/pressure...I could feel the hard knot. My dr has said the only thing that is where the pain is would be my uterus. He has had me taking Naproxen 375 mg. twice a day for the pain and inflamation. Unfortunatley the pain and pressure are still a daily part of my life. As a side note...I am on birth control and have been for several years due to extremely heavy bleeding and very large clots. That part has been better for about 2 years now. The pelvic pain has continued to progressivily get worse. Menstural cramps are horrible...enough to have me in tears and I am not a wimp when it comes to pain tolerance.

Over the course of time and effort to find out what is up...I have had a biopsy on my uterus 2 years ago...normal. They have done 3 pelvic US...internal and external. The first 2 showed no findings. The last one did. I found out on Sept 29th that I have a Hemmorhagic Ovarian cyst on my left side...and my uterus in slightly enlarged...but nothing definative that shows what causes all the pain.  The nurse called me with these results so don't really know much of the details. I had the dr. call me...all he said was that it was bleeding into itself and that is has some size to it. He wants to wait 6 weeks to see if it may reasborb itself...if not it definatley has to come out. My 6 weeks it up next week so will go back for another US. I also set up an appt with an OB/GYN for later the same day. Hopefully will know more then.

Another dr who looked at my records said that it was "leaking" I am wondering what you can tell me about any of this. Should I be concerned about what is leaking and where it would be going? Also wondering is some other symptoms that I am experiencing such as bloating, low back pain, and changes in urination urgency and frequency may be related to this? I am so lost and just want quit hurting every single day...UHHHGGG!!

My maternal aunt just had surgery about 1-2 months ago for very invasive stage 4 ovarian cancer so needless to say I am a bit nervous. Do hemmorhagic cysts ever become cancerous? I would be so grateful for any advice you may have...if you have the time. Thank you so much...God bless...Lynn

I am glad to have found this forum.  I too just had an abdominal hysterectomy, my incision is a vertical one, it starts at my belly button, and ends below my pubic hair line!  I had it done 4 weeks ago, and now my digestive system is a complete mess, I have had chronic constant pain on my right side which will not go away.  After several trips to the ER, ct scans, ultrasounds, etc, I was told that I have an ovarian cyst on my right ovary which is leaking, and continues to grow.  What has me concerned is the fact that 4 years ago I had a tubal ligation prefromed on me..twice!  The doctor who performed the first one did not get it done properly, and I had to get it done a second time, and they removed my right fallopian tube, which I think is causing all this pain on my right side and my ovarian cyst.  My doc tells me not to worry, suck up the pain, and the cyst will go away on its own.  But, I am really worried, since there is a history of problems such as these on my mom's side of the family.  My aunt had a 2 pound cyst on her ovary, and at the age of 21 had to have a complete hysterectomy.  I just want my life back.  I am a nervous wreck, very moody, you name it.  Anyone have any good advice?

Yeah...it was a great relief to have a doctor listen to me and take me serious. Today I got a letter from my PCP regarding my US results. It says the test results were normal...continue on with your routine health care....lol. Just as I had expected from him. WOW!!!!

I am sure it is gonna hurt like crazy but I keep focus on the fact that I hurt like crazy everyday so if I have to have a few weeks of worse pain to hopefully get to no pain....I am all for it. My hubby is great and will do his best...our son also lives downstairs so he will help me out too. Thanks for the support...It means so much. God bless...Lynn

Glad that you have found a great doctor.  That makes a huge difference.  I was really scared to have the surgery, but now that it's over, it wasn't nearly as bad as I had anticipated!  I hope all goes well with your surgery.  I was able to keep both ovaries.
Finally have my 4 week check up on the 17th.  Would just love to get the ok to take a bath (or hot tub) lol.  the best thing I found was an ice pack on my stomach, but I had an abdominal incision.  Hope your biopsy comes back ok, and I hope you can keep your ovaries or at least one.  I am feellig pretty good now, still get tired, but I think it's because I didn't rest as much as I should have the first 2 weeks.  Guess they tell you to take it easy for a reason ! lol  So try to REST as MUCH as you can afterwards.  My husband is great, does all the cooking, and hired someone to come in and clean once a week.  I hope all goes well and I will be thinking of you.

Just to update...I went in for my follow up US today and as I had suspected...the cyst had ruptured. They could see the fluid but said my body would absorb it with time. The OB/GYN was amazing. She spent 2 hours with me all together. Talking and listening to my history and symptoms...feelings and frustrations.

She did a biopsy of my uterus today as well as a more intensive bladder check than had been done previously. She scheduled surgery for Oct 29th provided that the biopsy results come back negative. The plan is to do a Lap assisted vaginal hysterectomy. But before anything actually gets done will do an exploratory and see what all may be going on in there. She will do whatever needs done while in there so I won't have to go through 2 surgeries to get the results of one. She said she will check my ovaries thoroughly and if at least one is healthy and can be kept she would like to so that I don't have to dive straight into menopause. So won't really know for sure what she finds until I wake up. I am a bit nervous simply because it is another major surgery. I just had surgery 6 weeks ago on my foot (3rd one on that in 13 months) so not really looking forward to another one...but at the same time it is so nice to be listened to and cared about what is going on inside me. For that I am so grateful. Anyways...just wanted to let you all know what I found out. Thanks again for all your support. God bless...Lynn

Thanks for the resonses and support. Tomorrow is the big day...it is kinda weird. I am excited at the chance to finally get some answers...yet a bit nervous that I may not get any. I have the 6 week follow up TVUS...then a couple hours later...the first appt with an OB/GYN.

Wouldn't you know that today...while certainly not pain free...has been one of the best days I have had in months. Don't get me wrong...I am so grateful for anytime that I am not doubled over in pain..and wanting to cry. There were a few days at the beginning of this week that the pain was sooooo bad. Kinda wondering if the cyst burst but will find out for sure tomorrow.I had accupuncture treatment for the pain yesterday so don't know if I just feel somewhat better b'cuz it really worked. I have a bit of fear that I will go to the dr tomorrow and she will look at me like there is nothing wrong...lol. Kinda like when I take my car to the shop and the mechanic never hears the noise that it makes for me...lol. Oh well. I am hopefull that something good will come of it. I will let you all know more tomorrow. Thanks agian...God bless...Lynn

hi,
first thing I would do is ask for the copies of us reports so that you can see exactly what it says.  that's what I did, my fnp never told me that mine said "complex cyst" or the sizes, etc...they also said some other things that she never mentioned, like thickened endometrial stripe.  (first thing my gyn did was an endometrial biopsy. ) that way I also had the reports when I made my own appt with gyn., I took them with me.   tomorrow will be 2 weeks since surgery, and my back pain is now gone!!  I had inpatient, had an abdominal incision. was in the hospital around 48 hours. my dr said my uterus was too big to do a vag. hyst.   I feel pretty good now, just get tired more easily.  good luck and keep us posted.

Hi, it certainly brings back memories for me with your description.  My symptoms were the same.   I had surgery June 6 to remove a 16 cm sized cluster of cysts that had bled into each other.  I feel fantastic now.  I was quite disappointed as I wanted a total hysterectomy (you have to be sure what your doctor is planning to remove for a hysterectomy as the term hysterectomy indicates just removal of uterus - I wanted it all gone) and my doctor felt it was too risky for me when he was operating so only took the cysts, right ovary and tube.  I have severe adhesions and it was a challenge for him to extricate what he did.

Keep up your hope.  This will get much better.

Thanks for your response and support. My pcp says that my uterus is "slightly enlarged"...and the cyst "has some size to it". Don't know any other details than that for now. I do have my appt next Thursday with the OB/GYN. I see her a couple hours after the follow up US. I hope they can figure something out. I would be all for surgery if it would take away this pain. I hope you have wonderful results once your healing is done. What has it been like for you with the hyst.? If you don't mind me asking. I would like to have one and just be done with all of it. I don't know what to expect but I do know what I deal with now and it is making me into a lunatic.

I was so relieved today when I went for a chir/accupunture appt. today. I asked the doctor if any of the other symptoms like gas, bloating, bowel changes, low back pain and urinary issues could be related. He said that they are not just related...they are directly affected and its very common to have all of these. He also pointed out that emotional health is very affected by the pain and worry. No doubt about that one...lol. I have been feeling like a hypocondriac (sp?).

Please take good care of yourself...keep us posted. Oh...by the way...was yours in patient or out? God bless...Lynn

Hi, sorry to hear of all your pain.  I too had a hemmorhagic cyst that was the size of a tennis ball, along with an enlarged uterus and fibroid tumor also tennis ball size.  the cyst did go away over three months, I had bloating, back pain that would go down my legs, couldn't eat alot without feeling full.  ended up having just my uterus removed on 9/22.  dr said it was enlarged 5x normal size.  Hope this will take care of the back pain once I heal up.  I started  on june 10 with ct scan and they watched cyst for 3 months via tvus. On sept 5 had consult with gyn, and cyst was gone and sched. hysterectomy for 9/22.  one thing I can say, if you're not comfortable with your dr., find another one.  that's what I did.  good luck and keep us posted.
