Could her cyst be gone?

My daughter is scheduled to have her cyst drained Oct. 15th.  She has had pain for a very long time.  Now that it was going to be looked into and drained by laparoscopic surgery, the pain is completely gone.  She had a severe increase in pain, then nothing!!  She has been pain-free for 3 days.  Do you think it could have ruptured and taken care of itself?  She wants to cancel surgery, so I am calling Dr. Boyd Monday to see if he wants to still look at the ovaries.  Thanks for all of your help.  She is happy she might not get a scar on her belly.  Marie

Marie I am so sorry I have not kept up with you.  I didn't know she was scheduled for surgery.  Anyway, I would not put her through surgery without an US or TVUS.  I had several burst in 1975 and than again in 1980.  The first time they did surgery to remove the mess left behind and the second time they didn't do anything because it all dissipated on it's on.  Those were the big ones, but I had several smaller ones pop also.  The big ones caused enough pain that I passed out and had to go to the hospital and the others were like hers...A huge increase in pain and than nothing.  I would definitely not let her go through even a minimally invasive surgery without knowing for sure.   That surgery can cause scar tissue that is way bigger than the incision would indicate and she doesn't need to go down that road if she doesn't have to.  How much time elapsed between her ER visit and him scheduling her for surgery?  Did he even examine her or did he just go on what the ER said?  I so hope she is done and over with.
Love,
Jan

Hi Marie,
First off, I am really glad your daughter is not having pain anymore, that is wonderful. I would however want another TVUS just to make sure everything looks good. No sense just worrying and wondering.... Take Care

I want her to have at least the TVUS.  She has had trouble off and on for a few years.  Thanks, Marie

Hi Marie,
So glad your daughter's feeling better, but you know I think I'd go ahead with the lap or at least the TVUS just for peace of mind. Hate to not do anything and then end up with pain again don't you think? But that sounds really good to me..

I think it did burst.  It seemed odd that he scheduled the lap without re-checking the cyst the ER found.  I would have thought he would want to compare for size.  I will see what they say Monday.  She feels so much better and that is a relief.  Now if she could just find a job................that is a whole other problem.  Thanks, Marie

Hey there Marie!  I'm glad she isn't having that pain anymore.  If it did burst that would be a good thing but I hope they follow up with it either by TVUS or lap.

Take care!

Cysts can resolve themselves especially fluid filled ones. It may have ruptured when she had the increase in pain. I wouldn,t  cancel the surgery though without another TVUS to see if its gone . I hope it has  Marie ,it does sound promising from what you have described .

Best wishes Angie

Yes it is very likely burst.  They may want to do an ultrasound to ensure.  I bet she's happy!
