Ovarian Cyst Size of Soft Ball

Today I went to the OBGYN to have an ultra sound done b/c I have been having severe pelvic pain on my Left side. They did an internal ultrasound, and found a Ovarian cyst the size of a Soft ball on the Right side. It did have Fluid in it, tho they did not really take the time to explain things to me. They said this was a medium size Cyst. I am 25 yrs old and weigh around 115 pounds. I have a bulge coming out of me. The pain I am in is horrendous. I have honestly never felt a pain like this before. Its a dull Aching pain 24/7 that is so severe It makes me sick to my stomach. On top of my cyst I have a UTI, and a yeast infection. I also started my period yesterday and the cramps from that are just overwhelming. The doctor wants me to go home , then come back in one day.

I am sorry If I was rambling in this whole note I am just in a whole mess of pain. I guess I just want to know what all this means. And if you guys have any ideas for some pain help...maybe some home remedies.

Thank you all so much for your time

~Nicki

Hi...
I have a 3.5cm ovarian cyst on my left ovary. I went to my doctor last week and scheduled to have it removed surgically in 6 weeks. I am just wondering if a cyst that size will go away on it's own or if surgery is the only option that I have. I can't sleep due to the pain, nauseas and just tired all the time. Thanks

Babs, at this point  I am feeling the same as I was before my surgery.  I has just worn me out b/c I think my doctor is a quack. I asked him about the new cyst they found on my ovary. Hey just avoided the question. My period is still going almost over a week and is heavier than it has ever been in my life. It hurts  to lay on one side .. im just a mess. So I am not sure if he completely removed the cyst b/c i still have one there.

Cammz, I think that is going to be my next step. Tho I just had a CT scan done with barium , and contrast of my tummy to see what is going on. My gastro doc is an amazing doctor I trust him. I have tried benifiber, milk of magnesia, stool softners, Metamucil, and drincking alot of apple juice :O). my poo factory is on hiatus I guess . haha.

Prune juice works wonders for the system. I used to drink it all the time after my op and now my system works like clockwork, lol.

How are things now?  Are you all recovered?  How in the world do they remove a softball from a 115 pound girl through three little slits?

I was in your shoes, I was severely constipated. I was too nervous to tell the doctor the day of the surgery that I hadn't had a bowel movement in 1 week. So iI had the Surgery already constipated. Then I couldn't  pass the gas or have a BM . I went for another week and a day still no BM. I was in so much pain.. i thought my incisions were going to bust open. I had to go to the ER to get help. Ever since than I havent been regular. So If anyone is going to have the Lap done make sure you have a nice BM before hand lol.

Moving around definitely helps displace some of the air that gets trapped in your abdomen during surgery.  But for me, the gas was related to my digestive system, and it was so terrible because I couldn't pass gas or have a bowel movement, and everything just built up. A nurse practitioner that I saw told me to take laxatives and stool softeners, and once I did that, the relief was tremendous.  So if you're constipated and think that might be contributing to the problem, you might wanna give that a try.  Good luck with your recovery - you'll be amazed at how much better you feel in just a few days!

You have to move around.  Also try taking gas X or ovol or drinking peppermint tea to help with the gas.

Just a quick recap, I am having sugery on friday. There is a chance I "might" lose my right ovary.  I am really nervous about the whole procedure. I do not like pain medicine but I hope it just foes well. I just want this thing out of me.

I do not know how you women have gone through this. I broke down and went to the hospital tonight b/c the pain was so intense. The Doc there told me it was still the size of a Soft ball -.- and has not leaked...ever... So my best bet is to have it surgically ruptured. I have a doc. apt. today at 3:15 I have no idea what he is going to say... but I hope we can just get this thing out of me.

As for the pain medication, I am terrified of the feeling that narcotics give me. So even with previous problems I have just taken IB profen.  I guess I am just a wimp .

Definitely not a medium sized!  It is possible the cyst is leaking and if that is the case it is good you are on antibiotics for the UTI (although you may not have one as cysts can often cause similar symptoms).  At least he is only waiting a day - a lot of doctors make women wait a few months.  Insist on something to help with pain and on having a plan of attack as soon as possible.  I had a grapefruit sized group of cysts and my doctor gave me percocets for when I couldn't deal any more while waiting for my surgery.

Yeah they said it is a medium size. >.> Yest The doc. told me to go home b/c he wanted to see if it would go away on its own. I looked at him like he was a crazy loon, I have never been in so much pain. I just want this massive thing out of me.
Maybe he said that b/c there is Fluid already?

They call softball size "medium"?  I would call that large myself and it's close to the size of my own cyst that was removed last year.  Pain relief is either through OTC medicines like Advil or whatever else works for you, but don't take too much of anything.  Some have had good results with heating pads.  At that size, you are going to need to removed with surgery.  That won't go away on its own and you wouldn't want it to anyway.  It is too big to allow it to rupture.  Or worse, it could cause twisting/torsion, which is never good.
