Ovarian Cyst

I've been having pains in my right ovary and went to the doctor to see what was causing it. They found a cyst on my ovary which they gave me antibiotics for and it went away, but it eventually comes back and they give me the same medication. Now the pain is unbearable. The pain is constantly there and there are days were it is so painful. I got an ultrasound and they found nothing but its still painful. It got so bad to the point were there was bleeding a few times. It was a heavy bleed and i knew it wasn't my menstrual cycle. I just recently lost my job and my insurance so I'm not too sure about what to do because i can't afford the medical bills. I don't know what is wrong with my ovary and what is causing this pain and bleeding, please help.

When did you have the ultrasound done and did they do a TV/US, which is a trans-vaginal ultrasound that gives a better view than a regular abdominal ultrasound. Ovarian cysts are fairly common in young women and develop during ovulation. There is a lot of information about cyst at the top of the page on the cyst forum, click on heath pages to look up the cyst link. I'm not aware of using anti-biotics for clearing up ovarian cysts, but is it possible you had an infection at the same time as when the cyst was discovered. One of the treatments for cysts in young women is using BC pills so that it gives the ovaries a chance to stop producing follicles each month, ( the way some kinds of cysts develop).  If you are a college student, are there any health resources available to you at the school for student health. Maybe they can direct you to a low cost clinic where you could get a consultation and a new referral for a TV/US if the one you had done wasn't recent. The bleeding may or not be related to the cyst, so you really need a good gyn work-up to determine what's causing that too. Usually when a cyst bursts it will be very painful and obvious, at that time you can experience some bleeding, but I'm not sure it would cause the type your describing. You can also try calling some gyn clinics in your area to see if they have a payment plan available or you can go to one of the clinics in a public hospital which may have the same kind of payment plan available. Good luck and keep us posted.

Oh dear.. That's a rough patch you're going through.. I'm a little confused as to why the Dr. would have given you an antibiotic for the cyst.

What kind of ultrasound did you have? The abdominal ultrasound (like you have when you're pregnant) or the Transvaginal Ultrasound ? It's odd that nothing at all showed up.
Cysts are very very common with younger women. Did you call your Dr. back ?

I'm sorry about the insurance, but somehow you have to have a Dr. take another look at this for you.

Good luck,
Sandy
