I was very scared before surgery too .
I just had open abdominal surgery to remove an 8cm tumor and my left ovary w/tube .   I told my Doctor, nurse and anesthesiologist about my concerns  (i even told the anesthesiologist "Don't let  me Die !" )     Once you voice your concerns the medical staff can be very reassuring .

The procedures and medications for surgery have improved greatly !   I had general before years ago ,and the experience this time was much better ,You go to sleep quickly and wake back up just as fast . It was so much better than I feared .

Good luck to you ,you will be fine . Don't be afraid to let others know how anxious you are emotional support is a huge help at this time .

6cm isn't really that big, at least not big enough to need something other than lap. surgery (it's where you have very small holes that they can poke their instruments through).  Why would they need to do a large incision?  Did they explain that to you?  Did you doc call you?

And what if you don't wake up?  Well, you could get hit by a bus today, but why worry about something that you can't control?  Sure, it happens, but so do a billion other things.  You should discuss this concern with the anesthesiologist and he or she can explain the entire process to you.  Your doc will have a pre-op appt.  Be sure to keep a list of your questions and concerns and bring it with you to that appt.
