Need help; detected with ovarian cyst

After having unbearable abdominal pain (in left lower quadarant), I have been diagnosed with the ovarain cysts as described below (cut and paste from my CT Scan report).

3.6 cm complex right ovarian cyst that is probably
a hemorrhagic cyst.  2.1 cm left-sided ovarian cyst present.

I had to be rushed to ER for the pain and was released with pain medication. The OBGYN is asking me to wait for 6-8 weeks before they will do ultrasound. I was in pain for about a week (the pain was like contractions that will come and go at abrupt times and that made me almost non-functional) and than I got my periods (which was 1 week early) and the pain subsided.

I am terrified...will these resolve by themselves? Are these considered big cysts? I really dread to go through that pain again...

Any help or sharing of experience in similar situation will be appriciated.

Ovulation takes place mid cycle and he probably thinks ovulation pains along with the cysts are likely.  You really have no way of knowing what the cyst is doing until the next ultrasound.  I know, it's frustrating!

I would say watch for elevated body temperatures that is not related to somethinig you can identify like cold or flu.  Fever is often a sign of some kind of infection.

Thanks; How do I know whether it is already broken down or not...they did the CT scan after the pain episode so at that time the cysts were there. What should I watch for? My GYN told that you may have similar pain midcycle but failed to explain why....any idea about midcycle pains with this kind of cysts?

These are not considered big, no.  When a cyst gets to 5 cm and larger, it is considered big enough to warrant surgical removal.  Hermorrhagic cysts are in the process of breaking down or rupturing, that is to say, leaking fluids and/or blood into your pelvic area that now must be reabsorbed.  This process HURTS a lot and can take days or weeks before you get some relief. You also have to watch for the possibility of infecton. In addition, complex cysts must be watched because these are the more suspicious ones to have.  That doesn't mean it won't continue to go away naturally, but it is part of the reason for a follow up in 6-8 weeks.
