Please help!

Hello.  I am 43 yrs. old. I recently had a vaginal ultrasound.  The results showed ‘a small uterine fibroid, some ovary cysts, and thickened endometrium’.  This is all the info I received.  My gyn. did say she would do a biopsy if I wanted if meds (progesterone) didn’t help with periods.  They have been heavy and irregular.  My problem is that I blamed pain in abdomen, pelvic pain and weakness, and pain during intercourse on my fibromyalgia (diagnosed 9 yrs ago).  Should I go to gyn. again and explain all this to her since I got the ultrasound results?  What is the next step?  Is a hysterectomy possible w/all these issues and child-bearing not an issue?  What do you suggest as my next step?

You should seek a second opinion as it is always the wise thing to do when dealing with your health.  The only way to truly dx anything is with a biopsy, but now a days this can be relatively simple.  The first thing to do before your next appointment would be to write down a list of all the questions you have, this way you won't forget anything.  Also, if you can have someone go with you to the appointment.  That way, they can also hear what the dr. is saying.  Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our fears that we do not hear everything we need to.  Perhaps a sister or best girl friend can go with you. Keep us posted.

I'm not sure what she wants to biopsy either.  I called today and have an app. on Thursday (10th).  I should know more after that.  I still don't know what size or type or anything else. Thanks to all of you, I am going armed with questions.

Hi Karen.  I won't repeat my advice from your post on the Hysterectomy forum but were you able to find out what size and type of cysts yet?  Do ensure you discuss your symptoms so gyn has all the info.  Hope you can relax and enjoy your weekend.

Take care,
Trudie

The next step should be MRI scan or CT scan. Why she wants to do biopsy of what? fibroid or thickened endometrium?
I would go and talk again with her and if she insists on biopsies please go for second opinion as well..
I am not saying biopsies are bad I am not clear why would she take biopsy...from what?  and why not do all the necassary scans first and than biopsy.
Do you take B6 and B12? this also  will help with heavy menstrual cycles. How is your iron? Before my hysterctomy my iron was at 8 low,way to low and my periods were very painful and heavy. When I started taking these vitamins my pain and heavy periods eased up.
If you like an expert opinion go to  Expert Forum-which you will find on main page with all forums list ( on top of this page click Forums)and on the right hand side scroll down and find   Gynecology Forum...go in there and ask again but give them lots of details to work with..Left side is for Community Forums and Right for Experts.
Hope you are doing well.Hugs,Sunes.
