Post-Op Report

Hi all, I found this forum after googling some terms from my post-op pathology report. My history:

Long hx of complex gyn problems. Infertility, anemia, heavy bleeding for years. 2011 radical hysterectomy due to complications from multiple large fibroids. Left 1 ovary only (cerix, uterus, 1 ovary and both tubes removed). Post-op pathology showed small adenocarcinoma of cervix which was removed. I have had yearly f/u with my gyn-onc who did the surgery.

Forward to 2014- nearing my 50th bday, my abdomen has been getting thicker and thicker, not sure how long this has been going on. Such a busy year with work, children and family etc, did not really become concerned until the fall. My stomach was huge! Also weird bump above my belly button. Like an idiot, waited until my scheduled f/u in Nov, should have called in Sept or Oct. Doctor felt my abdomen and immediately dx a large growth, and scheduled me for a CT scan and surgery.

Surgery mid-December. Now 2 wks post surgery. Here's the kicker: my ovarian "cystadema" (benign) was 39 cm in diameter. Yes, you read that right. That is 15 inches. Not circumference but diameter at it's widest point. That sucker weighed 8 pounds. Holy Moly.

The amazing thing is that I am not a large person, my normal size is 6-8. I had very few symptoms, other than my stomach looking like I was 6+ months pregnant. In fact, just before I went out of work 2 people asked me if I was pregnant. I am 50 years old, people.

I had an amazing surgeon for both surgeries. This has been much easier to go through than the hysterectomy. At 2 wks out I am still not lifting anything heavier than a few pounds and I am not driving yet. But otherwise I am feeling not too bad. I am off pain meds except for Motrin. I get tired easily still, but am able to have visitors and go out for a short trip to the store and even went to the movies already.

Just want to give you all some perspective on what is a "large" ovarian cyst/tumor. And that even at this extreme, it was not too bad to go through.

Feel free to ask any questions if I can be of help.
