Scared, can someone give me answers??

Hi, im a 16 yr old who currently found out i had a cyst on my ovary a couple nights ago with a Cat Scan. I wasnt told how big it was or anything i was just told i had one. Now what im concerend about is, can they grow?, can they go away on there own?, do you need surgery to make them go away?, can this turn into cancer?? Im very scared because ive never had a cyst before, and i dont know what to expect, all i know is that ive been in hell for the past 4 days. And on top of all this i also have a stomach virus which isnt helping what so ever. I have an appointment on the 20th of sept. will the obgyn be able to tell me the size of it?
Can i get answers asap please im getting more scared every day. x.x

I have had poly cystic ovaries for as long as I can remember. Most times they will go away on there own. 98% of the time it is not cancer. If surgery is necessary in your case they can do it laproscopicly through the belly button and there is no scaring. I hope this helps to calm your nerves. Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.

Hi there,

I'm so sorry to hear about your cyst.  But, try not to worry!  Cysts are very common and most cysts turn out to be benign.  Also, most do go away on their own.  Sometimes, your doctor will try a birth control pill to help regulate your hormones and shrink the cyst.  Only when cysts grow large, do they need to be surgically removed.  Most cysts are fluid filled, but some are complex (have solid parts).  The complex cysts need to be monitored more closely.  But, most of these also turn out to be benign.

Since you know your scan results showed a cyst, you doctor does also.  I am sure you would have been contacted if it was very concerning.  I hope you feel better from your stomach virus and that the cyst resolves soon!

Take care,

Shelly
