What to ask the surgeon?

My dermoid surgery is still 3 months away, and my preoperative appointment isn't until 2 days before the surgery.  When I saw the OBGYN (who will be doing the surgery) for the first time last week, I really liked her - she was friendly, professional, and informative, and answered all my questions - unfortunately, my mind kind of went blank and I couldn't even think of what to ask!  She emphasized that I was welcome to call if I had any questions at all, and I will be doing that.  Trouble is, I'm still not sure what to ask - I just feel like I want more information.

What I know:  They'll try to do a laparoscopy, which will get me back to work in a week.  However, if they had to switch to a laparatomy, recovery time will be "at least two weeks" (and from what I can tell from reading this forum, probably a lot more than that!)  I am planning to call soon with some more questions, but again, I'm not sure what to ask.  So far, I have ...

Can you take out my appendix while you're at it?
How long will I be in the hospital (assuming laparotomy?)
How long will the procedure take?

What else should I ask? This forum is really helpful, but in the end, it's probably best to ask my own doctor about my own particular situation.

Trudie had great questions.  I would also ask about what to eat afterwards to help with the gas, bloating and bowel movements.  I am sure there are somethings that help and some to avoid.  and a reasonable time frame for going back to work. I had intestinal surgery and it was 6 weeks before I went back to work, so make sure you ask about that. I can't think of any others but if I do, I will post them. Good luck!

Here are some suggestions:

Will I lose an ovary?
What kind of activities will I be able to do? Lap and Lam.
How long before I can drive?
Will you freeze a section and test it while you are still under?  If not, when will the pathology be done?
Leading up to the surgery are there any drugs I should avoid (many want you to avoid ibuprofen and aspirin a week before surgery)?

Good luck!
