complex cist how long to wait before laparoscopy

Hi
I have a complex cyst in my right ovary. it didn't show on my ultrasound 6 months earlier. then they found it and it was 2.9cm. I repeated the ultrasound 2 months later and it is was already 5 cm. I am really worried as the doctor scheduled a laparoscopy in 4  months time. he said he should be caused by endometriosis but he cannot exclude cancer.
test CA125 was negative but I had my mum and grandmother died of cancer (breast my mum and ovarian my grandmother).
I also regularly exercise (aerobic and resistance 1/2 hour 3 times a week) but someone told me I shouldn't.
do you think that a waiting period of 4 months for a laparoscopy is acceptable or should I have it earlier? thank you very much for you hel and assistance

Hi Deborah151,  I have a similar situation.  I have a 5 cm. complex cyst on my left ovary that was diagnosed at the beginning of Aug.  After closely watching it (I have no pain) with 3 TVU's, one CT scan and two CA-125's drawn (both within normal limits) I am FINALLY scheduled for a laparatomy on Nov. 16th for removal of the left ovary and a complete hysterectomy (I have a fibroid as well).  That makes it about 4 months.  Although my Dr. thinks it's endometriosis as yours does - I am, as MarieMichele suggested above, having a gyn/oncologist on call that day with my ob/gyn  so they can do a frozen section biopsy while I'm in surgery.  Waiting that long takes its toll on you mentally as you begin to imagine all sorts of bad things.  I'm with MarieMichele - if you can schedule it sooner - do it.  I will be very happy to finally get this behind me!  I wish you the very best with a quick recovery!!

If the doctor has some suspicion of cancer, then yes, 4 months is too long to wait to remove a cyst.  Mine had me wait no more than 3 days for surgery but my doctor had a lot of influence.

It's still a rare cancer, thankfully, but when there's any cause for concern, surgery should be scheduled within about a week or two and it should be a gynecologist/oncologist performing the surgery.  Catch and remove it early for the best outcome.

Is it possible to get an earlier surgery date in your area?
